It's more respectful? In what part of the business world does an executive allow an employee to take the lead and speak about an organizational decision first?

This is not a typical business.
Loyalty and respect come into play here.
When Romo has been your team's leader for the last 10 years, you dont want to just bench him.
Can you imagine benching Staubach for Danny White like that?
If anything, you can blame Jerry and FO for being too sentimental, not the other way around.

Considering, Manning, Montana, Favre,etc.. super bowl winning QBs have been traded or cut, it makes sense for 2 playoff win Romo to handle his benching with class and let the kid take over for the rest of the season and beyond.

I don't think there is anyone to blame, it is the nature of sports. I love Tony Romo and if called on I think he will be able to come in and do the job. However you have a young QB who has helped this team set a franchise record of 8 straight wins and looking for the 9th. If Dak was not producing he would not be keeping the job.

Backup quarterbacks do not have to talk to the media. He hasn't been on IR, he has been questionable for like a month, there is nothing making him talk now that stopped him a week ago unless Jerry is forcing him due to contract obligations but I doubt that.
This is false. Alll players must be made available. It's just that most people don't care about the backup QB.

I would not be surprised at all if he retired this off season. Hopefully to someday become the OC.

I can see it too, though he might want to still be a backup to help the team.

Although if I were Romo, I would retired after all those injuries.
His bones seems to be less tough than they used to be, though there is not much scientific basis for that...

The NFL is as much a "typical business" as they come. It's not a St. Jude charity.

Loyalty is commitment to the player. That's irrelevant in this situation. Respect would be speaking on the matter BEFORE Romo does.

Yeah. I would have expected Landry to man up and speak to the media before Staubach. Knowing Landry? That's what would have happened.

What the heck is this sentimental whatchamacallit???

Look at the way the FO has treated troubled players, with the latest being Gregory and Jerry said he has not given up.
Does it seem like a typical team or typical business?

Made available is one thing, but this feels almost like a press conf/announcement.
If every media member is going to bum rush you as soon as you show your face anyway, why not just have one organized session so everyone can just get on with their lives?

I dont think any individual player would hold a press conference about being a backup or even starting.

Must be a retirement announcement? Question is whether its immediate or at seasons end?

I've missed a couple of comments. What's the beef here?

This is a mistake if he will publicly speak (and be questioned) about the team's quarterback position. Any definitive statements should be made by those in authority, either Jason Garrett or Jerry Jones. An employee, even the quarterback of the team, should not be speaking on the matter until after statements are completely and clearly given by management. Otherwise, shame on Garrett and Jones for not manning up.

I understand where you're coming from DallasEast. But, I think Romo just wants to put to bed any QB "controversy" talk or any talk of him not being a team guy. By doing so, he is hoping the media will leave Prescott, Elliott, Wit, Dez, etc. alone regarding the matter and talk will be strictly about football. Also, the media can get all their questions out of the way now since the backup QB doesn't have to be and shouldn't be doing interviews with the media during the week.

I respect my QB for trying to get rid of the distraction so the team can keep rolling.

Romo hasn't had a media session since before his injury in August. I think it's just to get it out of the way so there's not a whole of speculation about what's what come practice tomorrow.
