I still think Tony ends up getting released. Only a desperate team would trade a high pick for him knowing he's likely to be released anyway. Also, it could be easily argued that, unless we get a high pick, releasing him is more beneficial to the team anyway, as the cap savings for next season would be higher than if he was traded.

There would be dead money, but the overall cap savings for releasing him are still pretty massive.

I think we would get better value if we got a player like Sheldon Richardson more so than a 3rd round pick.

If teams offer and 1st or 2nd then go for it.

We save 25 mill in cap space if we cut him. Cutting him is a good option because it opens up quite a bit of space.

I think it's Broncos or Cardinals. Broncos makes more sense, given that they're in the AFC. And I think it's for a pick who's value escalates based on performance. Tony's too good a player to think that nobody would snap him up before he got to the open market, if possible. Jerry'd give Tony right of refusal anyway, because that's the way he does these things. Maybe teams wait it out and see if we just release him outright, but as valuable as QBs are, I"m not sure it's a lock we don't keep Tony another year. It's pretty unlikely, obviously, but I think it's possible. I can't imagine we want to see Tony as a free agent going to a legit NFC competitor if we can help it.

Romo will be starting somewhere next season, for as long as that lasts. FWIW, Dallas has 2017 games at Denver and at Arizona -- two likely landing spots.

Both great choices for Tony.

It sucks but what can we do? Romo isn't going to sit behind Dak when he's a top 5 QB when healthy. I hope he does well wherever he goes if he goes.

Reality: Dak is the future and the future is NOW. Tony is done as a Cowboy. This is nothing new to me. I've been saying it since the preseason.

I wish Tony well wherever he goes to squeeze another year or two out of his career.
