A lot of people have tried and failed to quit because they weren't ready or were unable to give up nicotine. That's where vaping comes in. There are over 3000 chemicals in cigarettes that aren't in E-cigarettes. The ingredients of the E-liquid are Vegetable Glycerin(VG), Propylene Glycol(PG), Food Grade Flavoring, and Nicotine. E-liquid comes in strengths of 0mg, 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, 24mg. Depending on the smoking habit most heavy smokers start at 24mg. Lighter smokers start at 12 to 18mg. The idea is to start at a level that closely mimics your normal nicotine intake (satisfaction level) and to decrease your nicotine as you go while at the same time cleansing your body of the tar and 3000 other toxins you were putting into your lungs. Most people develops a cough for a few weeks while their lungs are expelling those toxins. But the cough goes away in a few weeks. Most E-liquid come in 70/30, 60/40, 50/50. That is the PG/VG ratio. The higher the PG, the more you mimic the feel in the throat of smoking (Throat punch). Most people are good with 60/40. After a month or so at one nicotine level, you step down to the next. It varies with people depending on their level of addiction to nicotine.
Do you have any question? There isn't enough space here for all I know but this is a start.. I would really like to help. So ask away...

I've been dipping since I was in HS in the early 80's, but I'm not addicted, I quit all the time.

Yeah, same for me. I started dipping when I was a little kid. To young for sure and really continued it, mainly to cut weight. I wrestled when I was younger and Dip would help with the hunger pains that seemed to always be there for me. An excuse really I guess but still in all, it's true. I wished I'd never started and I have quit on and off over the years but I wonder, have really quit at all? I mean, seems like I always go back. Maybe a good New Years Resolution for me....

I've gone months, even years without dipping. But, every once in a while I go into a store and notice the rack behind the counter, and .....you know the rest.

Recently started vaping, just not tobacco.

Still feels like a superior way to smoke though. And So convenient to have a little pen I can take with me anywhere.

What do have for a portable vape and how do you like it?

I'm still at 60:40pg and fluctuate between 0.9-1.2. As I said in an earlier post, most of my buddies that couldn't stay with it, started at 1.2 (I started at 2.2 myself, then 1.8 and leveled at 0.9-1.2) and went down too quickly. They go to 0.3 and them 0 and then wonder why they are smoking cigs a month later. Smh.

I really appreciate your input in this thread, CowboysPrincess -- hopefully someone has some good questions for you with as versed in the field as you are :)

When you vape does it give you the same satisfaction as smoking did as far as feeling in your lungs and instant gratification? I quit smoking in '99. On the weekends I would go up to 3 packs a day and during the week I easily smoked 2 packs a day.

There were a lot of things I missed about smoking when I started my quit. One of the biggest was how my lungs felt when I smoked a cigarette after I had not had one in a long time. It felt good. I know it doesn't make sense as far as my lungs "thanking" me for killing it. I've always wondered if vaping gives you the same satisfaction. Vaping wasn't around when I quit. I don't think I would have tried it. I didn't quit because of health concerns. I quit because I got tired of my life being dictated by my addiction to nicotine. Everything I did seemed to be towards thoughts of how long I could go before I could have a smoke. I didn't go to a few movies because I knew I would be miserable towards the end of the movie as all I would be thinking about was smoking a cigarette. When people visit me and they vape I let them vape in my house. I would never let a smoker smoke in my house. Being around smokers doesn't bother me and when I quit I vowed I would never be one of those people who would harp on the dangers of smoking to smokers. I hated that when I smoked and I vowed I wouldn't do that when I quit.

I quit cigs 3 years ago on New Years Eve, but i kept smoking other for about a year after that, now i vape that other. Carbon free for 2 years now. Only downside to vaping other instead of smoking it is my throat is always tickling when i take more then 3 or 4 puffs in a row.

Checking out food products to replace the vape. Will see.

My preferred method of marijuana consumption is via vape. I buy the pre-filled cartridges and just attach them to my "battery". It just feels much cleaner and more convenient than traditional smoking.
The vape messing with your throat?

I've been vaping since August of '15. Got me off smokes and is quite enjoyable. The flavors, nicotine fix, and great vape devices make it a fun and safer alternate to smoking cigarettes.

Any other Zoners out there vaping?
I vape using a DNA 200 hcigar VT133 and a Crown tank. Mostly vape juices from Adirondack vapors in 6mg

I certainly "feel" that this isn't healthy. I wake up with sore throats, still etc.

Cal, what did you get your degree in?

Urban Planning.

My connection with county health was working in their Healthy Communities department looking at how land use decisions, public policies and urban form have an impact on public health (e.g. lack of a sidewalk & bicycle network decreases opportunities for active lifestyles, increases short-trip automobile usage, sedentary lifestyles, et cetera).

If you go heavy on a pg:vg (emphasis on pg), and a high nicotine level (1.2-2.4mg) absolutely, Jammer.

I'm sure @CowboyPrincess could tell you more. But you are absolutely able to mimic smoking, with both the feel (throat and lung "tingle") and satiation of nicotine.
