LOL your fellow Americans?

Transgendered Americans make up a very small minority of this country, very small. Yet, we have people like you who want to force this issue down the throats of the vast majority of Americans that do not agree with the notion of allowing biological men to enter and use a bathroom with a biological woman.

I live in North Carolina and have about had it with this issue. LOL how is it rational to impose the opinions of the few over the vast majority?

Like Gay marriage in this state. Like in others, the voters struck down gay marriage here overwhelmingly, but then we have people like you who decide that you know better than the actual people.

So don't give me this crap about your fellow Americans. The will of the people has been trampled on by the likes of you and it makes me sick.

Wow that must be very difficult for you.

This is Kim Petras, Born Tim Petras in Germany. Known as the youngest person to ever get Sexual reassignment surgery in the world at 16. So under this proposed law, if she ever came to Texas she would technically still be required to use a men's restroom because of a birth certificate? smh......I understand the other side in that you dont wanna give some perv the "right" to be in a woman's bathroom just because he puts on a wig and some makeup, but you cant enforce this issue by birth certificate, thats just as ridiculous, some other way has to be found.....Man I love being a Texan, but I cant wait til we're a purple swing state and not so dang religious red.......

I like that its crap that I'm standing up for millions of Americans. Honest questions: How does this burden you whatsoever? How does gay marriage burden you? Why do you care? Is this something you think about a lot?

I've never really understood why people care where someone goes to the bathroom or who they love. What material effect does it have on you?

Exactly, but hypothetically if she were to be found out as having been born a male somehow, then by the letter of this intended law she could be charged with a crime, pure silliness.......

simple question really. you pass a law, you gonna feel safer?
States aren't just passing laws to mess with people

Charlotte passed an ordinance that gave homosexuals special rights and protections others did not have..... they said they couldn't get fired for being gay but NC is a Right to Work state and anyone can get fired for any reason......NC couldn't have every city passing laws that superseded state law so they crafted what was termed the 'bathroom bill' but it was much more

President Obama then tried to use an EO to force all public schools to adopt a new standard and sued under Title IX of the Federal Code........I haven't read Texas' proposed law but I assume it in part a response to Obama's lawsuit.....just today Jeff Sessions the new AG used his office to derail Obama's EO in a major change in policy

But it is much more than feeling safer and the Right didn't start or want this fight.......Don't ask Don't tell worked as a bathroom policy for 200 years....... but being forced to allow Males into girls rooms because they self identify is a bridge too far

I am not a lawyer or even close and I may have some things factually wrong but these are my honest understandings of the situation

There are carve outs and exemptions for people to get new amended Birth Certificates.... they are not the targets of this law.......People simply want the retain ability to remove men that should not be in ladies rooms and lockers

I think the better question is, why can't you accept the fact that the majority of people disagree with you on this subject?

Why do you feel it necessary to force your minority view on others? If it's all about love and burdens, then why do you people get so bent out of shape when the majority doesn't conform to your point of view.

You people claim to be open and accepting and tolerant. I guess that's true with you until someone actually disagrees with you. Then you turn to your standard hissy fits and obstruction.

And if you want to stand up for a certain group of people, then knock yourself out. But don't sit there and try to rationalize my point of view with your honest questions that you posed. What difference does it make why I believe what I do and am against gay marriage and biological men going to the bathroom with biological women. Even if I explained it to you it wouldn't matter. You wouldn't care. And it is crap that you feel it necessary to defend 1 percent of the population and take a massive dump on the vast majority that disagrees with them.

Here's the thing. Most of us do not care about what two men or two women do in the privacy of their own home. But I find it morally unacceptable personally and I'll be damned if I am going to be forced to agree with it and be complicit with it.

Gay marriage, this bathroom issue, and other's pertaining to it has been put to a democratic vote dozens of times in this country, and it has almost always been struck down. But it can't end there can it? I don't think about it often, no. I think the ones that are obsessed with this are the people trying to force it on those that don't agree with it. That's my opinion.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to you. I respect your opinion and disagree at the same time.

You summed it up pretty good.

I do know that McCrory offered to put this particular issue up for a popular vote in the state of North Carolina as well as other proposed avenues to try and compromise with the opponents of the bill, mainly the city of Charlotte. They didn't want any of that though because they knew what the outcome of that would be.

I would be in favor of the the HB2 law being repealed and gone as long as the city of Charlotte repealed and got rid of their city ordinance. Just let it go back to how it was before because as you mentioned, this whole thing is way more complex than what the headlines will tell you. In fact, a deal was brokered to do exactly that and have both parties strike the laws down and let things go back to how it was before, but natually, it fell apart.

I don't know who "you people" is. Nobody is forcing you to agree or be complicit with it. Frankly we're just asking you to ignore it. Why is that so hard? If you ignoring something that has virtually 0 effect on your life would make millions happy, I dunno man. There are a ton of states that would love to just be theocracies. Utah would overwhelmingly vote to be a mormon state and enforce Mormonism on everyone regardless of their beliefs. The popularity of something like that doesn't justify it because it violates the fundamental tenets of a free and fair society. If the exercise of some act doesn't burden you, I see no reason to restrict the freedom of others. My default is to let everyone be free. That seems like a principle that anyone can agree to but maybe I'm wrong.

No, I won't lie it won't but it might make me understand where you're coming from more than I do. If it's just a "I'm religious and the Bible says X/Y/Z" then yeah, we don't have a lot to discuss because I don't find that a legitimate basis for governing. I'm just trying to understand how the policy impacts you personally. Do you interact with a lot of gay people? Does what they do affect how you see your own marriage? Or how you see your society? I just don't understand why you'd want to deny the institution of marriage to your fellow Americans.

You seem to have a Libertarian streak. Nothing wrong with that.

It really is simple in my opinion. You say that nobody is forcing me to agree or be complicit with it eh? If that's the case, then what do you have to say about the state of North Carolina overwhelming striking down gay marriage only to have unelected judges override the will of the people and force people to do things they don't believe in?

What about the churches in this state that have had lawsuits filed against them because they wouldn't perform a gay wedding?

It has been forced on the people of North Carolina and other states that voted against it. That's my whole point.

This country was founded on Christian values. But with that being said, no, I don't believe that I should force my religious views on anyone. That includes Gay people or anyone else that doesnt believe in the Bible. That also doesn't mean that I should be forced to become complicit with it either.

I do have gay friends and I am friends with their partners. We have a normal friendship but they know that I don't agree with their lifestyle. The sanctity of marriage is pretty well-defined in not just Christianity but virtually every other religion. I take issue with the fact that the will of the people was overrided by unelected judges and beauracrats. It's like me going up to Massachussetts and telling the people there that voted in favor of gay marriage that it was now outlawed. That's not right.

look - i think the entire fight was stupid. i won't go into why because that would get political but i also have to wonder w/o this law protecting their right to pee where they want, where did they before? did they hold it til they got home? it's a stupid argument that doesn't need a law, to me. go where you look like you belong. in my 51 years, no one has EVER done a gender check at the door to ensure you're in the right spot. i know i've never done one to anyone else in there.

as for worried about people who would abuse this if it were suddenly legal to go in there - um, until all this started, was it then illegal for them to go in there or did that just happen when this stupidity broke out?
