That's the guy I mentioned a while back. would love to have him. He was also one of the best safeties against the run. Would secure the safety spot for a while.

He's going to get paid though.

He's not a bargain bin player so there's probably very little chance of that happening. He's probably looking at somewhere between 6-8 million per which seems to be out of the Cowboys price range.

Church or Wilcox will just depend on how much they want (obviously)

I expect one to be back, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them both walk.

Heath has gotten a lot of hate, but I think he was actually pretty decent in his snaps last year. He was a SPARQ guy, his instincts were just bad. He may have finally progressed to the point of average starter if that's the worst case scenario.

I actually liked the Frazier pick. He's built like a truck, likes to thump in the run game. Pretty typical SS mold. His low at his pro day was 4.48. He's not going to cover anyone in the slot but he has potential. The bar isn't really set very high.

With how deep the secondary is in this draft, you could really double dip in the top 3 rounds and get some great value. Hit your picks and you'd have two cornerstones to your secondary for quite a while.

It's looking like value for pass rushers is really 2-4 anyway. I can't see us overpaying for either Church/Wilcox with the amount of talent in this draft class. Church would almost definitely be a progress stopper.

I don't agree that his instincts were bad. He was right there with Megatron and Peterson. His problem is he got overpowered. It wasn't even by all that much. He almost was making the plays.

I took it as meaning he was close and would improve. Most people took it as he sucked.

He does turn the ball over in the limited snaps he gets, he is physical as anyone in the league now, and he has range in coverage. I wouldn't hate it if he started.

He got beat down by arguably the two greatest physical specimens at their positions as a ROOKIE and people hold it against him for years. Smh, Meanwhile Church and Wilcox have gotten embarrassed by much worse players. #cowboylogic

I will admit I was one of those on the "hating on Heath" bandwagon, but, I will admit he seems to be playing better that last time we saw him on the field. Hey, one thing I can say is at least the guy is capable of getting some turnovers. Can't say that about the rest of the secondary really. lol

That's exactly why people hate him. It's all from those moments in his rookie season. It really boggles my mind how people can spend so much time on a message board without being at least somewhat aware of what is actually going on.

Maybe he's capable of being a full time starter, maybe he's not. What I do know is he's a great STs player and performed well in his spot starts and rotational snaps. He's more than earned the money that he got paid and the roster spot he commands.

Every team needs players like him. Except this team. If they aren't All-Pro level, they shouldn't even have a roster spot here.

Heck...if Church gets offers @ 7mil then he has to go! I love what he brings to the team but he's not enough of a gamechanger to pay that type of dough. I'd rather draft a CB or DL in the early rds & roll the dice w/ Heath & Frazier on the back end unless there's a bona fide playmaking S that's the best player available.

Wilcox is also a free agent
Funny how a year ago everyone wanted heath ran out of town, now they want him to be the starter
I guess it's sort of funny. Some of us may have changed our mind based on him playing well as opposed to it not as well in the past. I think it's ok to change your mind when evidence is there that you may have been wrong.

I'm in on Heath. When given a chance he has produced and he has improved since his first couple of years in the league. Imo he's a better player than both Wilcox and Church.

My opinion....it's a very deep and good draft for safeties.

Either draft a true center fielder and play Jones on the TE, or draft a safety that can cover TEs and keep Jones deep.

I don't mind Heath at all. In limited snaps, he makes plays and has a nose for the ball. He runs well, too. The only issue is I don't see him as better than Byron and I question if he can really play SS. He's more of a special teams type of tackler where you're going 100 mph and a lot of the tackling is about 'want to' instead of playing SS where you have to have the size and ability to do so.

Wilcox is a big hitter and made major strides but still struggles with the #1 rule of being a safety....you're the last line of defense and you can't let the ball carrier get past you. He's always struggled in zone coverage and he just doesn't have the feel for it. He could be our best bet at SS if Byron can direct him around and keep him in short and intermediate zone coverage.

Frazier is intriguing because the scouting reports on him before he was drafted was that he looked similar to Church. However, he's far more athletic and has better speed than Church does. I can't imagine him being ready though.

If we were to draft Peppers, we would have a safety duo that would be the most athletic with the most range in the entire league.

Whether people like it or not...the league is almost reversed than what it was about 8 or 9 years ago. In order to get quality pressure and play quality defense, the back-end has to be stout, first. And in today's game, they ask a ton from both safeties and that's what makes the positions so critical and so difficult. Once the back-end is solidified, then the pass rush has enough time actually get to the passer. Even Von Miller relied on a very good defensive backfield. The same with Clowney. And they were both top-5 picks.

Dallas isn't getting that top-5 pick, so don't expect that super elite rushman. But, they can get another excellent safety at 28 and solidify their safeties for the next 5-10 years.

My thing about peppers is why are we acting like he's the only strong safety in the draft? Josh jones and montae Nicholson are bigger and tested better.........and actually played the position. They could be had in round 2 if need be

When we draft a guy and develop them, the hope is that they will get better and someday be worthy of a bigger pay day. Why should some other team benefit from our staff's time and energy in developing theses guys? We just have to be okay that they will eventually get paid. In the case of Barry Church, he didn't even get drafted. We signed him as an undrafted rookie. Since then he has developed and now by far out performs his scouting report out of college. He deserves to finally get paid. Please, pay the man!

I don't know that's he is better than church but he has improved as most players do over time
Some fans are just a bit to quick to judge a young player before giving him time to develope

Then he can walk. He's not worth more.
Every free agent can leave. But don't expect to get better if you have to replace 2 cb's, 2 safeties, #2 wr and several depth players
Where does that leave picks to get better
