that would only cost them $10m or so in 2017 cap dollars.
but we are rapidly catching up with romo's situation.

fact of the matter is, $ is everywhere.
2/3 of the teams have ton of cap space available.
each could readily sign 3-4 war daddies if they wanted to.
that is why the salaries are rapidly for the better players.
if anything, the case could be made that the teams are colluding to keep salaries low.
 
If we wait two more weeks, we can probably get guys for even cheaper!

assuming hankins gets a 10m aav contract for 4 years with a signing bonus of $10m, this shows the cap impact of $3.5M for year 1.
they dont even need to restructure - though they would restructure to clear space for the draft.

That seems about right for the Giants. It might be closer to $5 million now after they resigned Jerry. I do know they plan on creating more cap space with restructuring and hoping to get a long term deal done with JPP to lower his cap hit.

the problem is that we already have 8 players on the DL that would not likely be cut.
that is not even including Moore.
assuming we draft 1-2 DE, we are up to 9-10 not including Moore.

how many DL did we have last year?
i would guess at max 9?
 
Looks like a lot of owners are pocketing some extra cash rather than spending it. Seems like the cap got so high and it is tempting the owners to just keep it rather than overpay some bum free agents just to make some fans happy.

Would I rather have an extra $50M in my pocket and field an average team, or would I rather spend an extra $50M and make the playoffs and hope for some luck to make the super bowl?

It's simple, each year there is a minimum dollar amount teams have to spend and a maximum (I.e. the cap). If a team does not spend the maximum the difference gets rolled into the following year. Thus if a team spends $5 million less of the maximum in year X, it gets an extra $5 million on top of the stated salary cap in year Y. Rinse, wash, repeat and after a few years of mimimum spending a team can gain a boatload of unused salary cap money. To my knowledge, individual teams must simply spend the minimum each year to be in compliance with the CBA. However I believe there is a league wide average that must be spent. Maybe someone else can chip in on that part.

Exactly, the CBA calls for a minimum and a maximum spending. Some team owners spend the minimum and pocket the rest. I don't know the exact finances of each team but there is a disparity with many. JJ could spend the max cap allowed and still rake in milllions on top of that just on media and merchandising. Buffalo, Cleveland, JVillle not to sure but are in smaller markets and probably on a little tighter budget so they might not spend as much. Their owners still want to make a profit too.
