Don't be surprised when pass rushers are gone

IMO, all of us projecting some of the edge rushers at 28 are likely to be disappointed. Edge pass rushers are unicorns and every team is looking for one, even if they have one already. Can never have too many. Because of the depth of the CB market (the other premier defensive position in the first round, historically), I see a run on pass rushers and good CBs sliding. IMO, the following guys will be gone by 28: Thomas, Barnett, C Harris, Charton, McDowell (if you consider him an edge rusher), Watt, McKinley. The only guys I project there are Bowser, Willis, Basham. Will be a tough call for us to just go CB rather than reach for one of these. Thoughts?

I think the team goes CB. I think the team was always going to go CB.

That is a lot of DE's taken in the first 27 picks.
DE's and OLB's. And this is a pretty weak offensive draft in the first round for OL and WR and arguably QB. Teams will prioritize pass rushers. I just hope guys like Mahomes, Watson, John Ross, Corey Davis, Dalvin Cook, ramcyzk, bolles, Njoku get picked before 28 to push one of the DEs to us.

I think 2 of the rushers you listed to be taken will be there. 1 at the least, three atthe most.

But if they're gone, you're right in thinking a worthy CB, or other player, will be there.
Looking forward to Thursday

1 Garrett
2 Thomas
3 Allen
4 Charlton
5 Mcdowell
6 McKinley
7 Barnett
8 Harris
9 Watt
10 Bowser

If there is an unprecedented run on pass rushers and all these guys are gone, a really good game changing player is going to fall to us so I'd be ecstatic.

I agree. But IMO the only way one of the top 9 are available is if teams above us reach for QBs, OL, and WR. There are just not that many of those offensive players with first round grades compared to prior years.

Agree
I think OP is over thinking it a little
There will be at least 3-4 players including pass rushers at 28 that the FO will be comfortable choosing from in terms of value

3 Allen
4 Charlton

6 McKinley

I think 5, 6, and at least one of 9/10 will be there
Maybe even 8

Or offensive tackle which I heard somewhere is really poor this year. I also didn't include Jordan Willis in the list who may be an option as well.

If Barnett is there, we should take him over all the other ones you have mention. Garrett, Thomas , Allen won't be there at 28 and highly doubt Barnett will be there either.

Yeah...this isn't happening..no chance...as others have mentioned, even if it does happen ..it's not a bad thing

I agree there will be an urge to reach for an edge rusher,,, and most mocks have Thomas, Barnett, Harris, Charlton going before us,,, but with a rebuilding defense that has lost multiple starters in the secondary I think "settling" for a first round caliber DB or trading back a few spots will be an easy call to make,,, especially with Tapper red-shirting last year. Remember, our biggest rival in the NFCE has a trio of top notch WRs. Heck, all of the NFCE rivals are beefing up their passing games.

Good point. If we go CB with one of those DEs on the board, I guess we can conclude that they like Tapper better than the guys available.

True,,, and if they do reach for one of those remaining DEs that might be telling us what they really think of Tapper's back prognosis.

If that's the case a nice DB will slide.

I think 8 pass rushers (including Garrett) going within the first 27 picks is a bit too high. I think there will be at least two or three of those names available.

I think if you plotted out that entire first round, you'd see that.

Well hopefully they don't force a CB pick when there are likely better players available and also considering you can get a similar caliber CB at 60.
