Don't be surprised when pass rushers are gone

3 went last year in the first. Then about 4 in the next 12 picks of the second. If the players left on the board have an equal grade and DE is one. They will take it. Other teams have needs too and will do what they must. Seahawks might want a DE/CB but what if Lamp is there? I think at most 5 DE's in the first.

This QB class is not good but i would bet 3 or 4 will go ahead of us,if the player we covet is not there then my my first preference is to trade down if we can and pick up an extra 3rd RD pick.

Whatever pass rusher is there I'm hoping the team makes the right choice. I don't see these guys being any better than DLaw has been. None of them really blow my skirt up.

IMO, all of us projecting some of the edge rushers at 28 are likely to be disappointed. Edge pass rushers are unicorns and every team is looking for one, even if they have one already. Can never have too many. Because of the depth of the CB market (the other premier defensive position in the first round, historically), I see a run on pass rushers and good CBs sliding. IMO, the following guys will be gone by 28: Thomas, Barnett, C Harris, Charton, McDowell (if you consider him an edge rusher), Watt, McKinley. The only guys I project there are Bowser, Willis, Basham. Will be a tough call for us to just go CB rather than reach for one of these. Thoughts?
People are too focused on need.

One of those 3 that you have remaining will likely turn out better than some that you have as already taken. There is not a huge difference in most of them.

There's a good chance. You're talking about some pretty athletic pass rushers in that leftover group. It's going to be a matter of how well they take to coaching to work on things like using their hands, how hard they work in the weight room, etc.

I think 8 pass rushers (including Garrett) going within the first 27 picks is a bit too high. I think there will be at least two or three of those names available.

I think if you plotted out that entire first round, you'd see that.

I think Watt and McKinley or Harris are likely to be there when we pick, but I'm OK if they're gone with us taking Bowser over any of the corners. In fact, I prefer Bowser to McKinley and Harris.

The reason I think Watt and Bowser might be there when we pick is because they don't have prototypical size. I think McKinley will be there because of injury. And I think Harris will be there because he isn't as good as the draft gurus think he is.

1 Garrett
2 Thomas
3 Allen
4 Charlton
5 Mcdowell
6 McKinley
7 Barnett
8 Harris
9 Watt
10 Bowser

If there is an unprecedented run on pass rushers and all these guys are gone, a really good game changing player is going to fall to us so I'd be ecstatic.

Yep a top DB or a top Wr or TE Howard...yeah I wouldn't cry too hard

Which is why we brought in 20,000 first-round DEs for visits.
It's open to whatever interpretation you want but to me this looks like it did before the team drafted Byron Jones. I think they had their minds made up to go DB then and I think they have their minds made up to go CB now. I do think they learned to be better about doing their due diligence after the Claiborne incident and I'm of a mind that's why they are talking to so many DEs. Also, these DEs are all over the place with ratings and a lot may make it into a position to be 2nd round picks.

Agree
I think OP is over thinking it a little
There will be at least 3-4 players including pass rushers at 28 that the FO will be comfortable choosing from in terms of value
I'm not so sure. Maybe you're right though.

I'm not sure they'll like the DE's that will be there nearly as much as the DB's. If they don't have it very close, they'll go with the DB.

Agreed. I think that's the only reason why we have a shot at Watt. Ten pounds heavier and I think he's a top 15 pick.

I think it's the complete opposite. I think there will still be good corners to be had at #60. Pass rushers? Not so much.

To be fair many of the DE's the team brought in the team won't see them as viable picks at 28.

They are doing their due diligence in case they move back from 28 to say, 39 or on case the player is available at their second or third round pick.

So they might view watt or basham as second rounders and would not take either one of them over Awuzie or King (for example) at 28.

Exactly. They won't all be gone and the guy we do draft is on that list.

I cannot remember the last time a draft was so weak at the top as regards Offense, especially O linemen. So a lot of D players are going to go in the first.

I'm just not convinced any pass rusher at #28 is going to be with fewer faults than those who we tend to think will be at #60. None of them inspire much confidence.

I'm of the opinion that they'll be picked over by #28 with a lot of the guys we see some mocking in the second round long gone. We'll see Thursday.

I think the differentiation is all about mental makeup. There are several that appear to have sufficient athletic ability, but none of them really stand out way above the others, IMO.

I disagree with your opinion but agree that "we'll see Thursday".
