Good point. If we go CB with one of those DEs on the board, I guess we can conclude that they like Tapper better than the guys available.
Nope. If we go CB with one of those DEs on the board, we can conclude that they like that CB better than those DEs. The Cowboys have been pretty strict for quite a while about BPA in the first round.

I think 8 pass rushers (including Garrett) going within the first 27 picks is a bit too high. I think there will be at least two or three of those names available.

I think if you plotted out that entire first round, you'd see that.

That may be accurate. The thing that lends a little bit more credibility to that idea/theory though is the make up of this draft. Usually a QB goes first overall, and that spot is likely taken by Garrett. The second rated edge rusher is likely to go in the top 3. That affects your average considerably.

The guys who would normally be premium picks (OTs and QBs) really don't rank high. If the rumors we are hearing are true, it is entirely possible that NONE of the QBs carry a first round grade. I know teams tend to reach for them, but if you were the Cowboys and Romo had retired (and we didn't have Dak) would you reach for one of these guys? I'm not sure I would want the Cowboys to do that.

Trubisky is rumored to be the cream of the crop. Mahomes may be the next in terms of potential, but you may be drafting Jay Cutler when you draft him.

Just my two cents. Who knows how it will turn out. I just don't think you can exclude the possibility that it will happen. The only thing that might push one down is all of the DBs that may go earlier than us.

IMO, all of us projecting some of the edge rushers at 28 are likely to be disappointed. Edge pass rushers are unicorns and every team is looking for one, even if they have one already. Can never have too many. Because of the depth of the CB market (the other premier defensive position in the first round, historically), I see a run on pass rushers and good CBs sliding. IMO, the following guys will be gone by 28: Thomas, Barnett, C Harris, Charton, McDowell (if you consider him an edge rusher), Watt, McKinley. The only guys I project there are Bowser, Willis, Basham. Will be a tough call for us to just go CB rather than reach for one of these. Thoughts?
If that's the case I wouldn't mind king or Conley....I've been a fan of watt recently and have warmed up big time to taco and love Harris and that lethal spin move. Not too high on bowser unless he is still there in the second. I think his build is more of a backer but the guy can play.

Quarterbacks always go high, deserving or not. And, despite the warts with this year's group, I think at least two go before us, maybe even three. Demand always exceeds supply.

I also feel that given the dropoff in a thin class, that three or four offensive linemen will go before #28 too.

Based on Jerry and Stephen's comments about priority being to fix the pass rush, I think they want to go DE. But I doubt one will be there worth picking and they will go CB.
If the pass rushers are gone..

DB is the goal..

CB or safety is the pick.

2 if we can manage it.

I agree. But IMO the only way one of the top 9 are available is if teams above us reach for QBs, OL, and WR. There are just not that many of those offensive players with first round grades compared to prior years.

Got a feeling the QBs are gonna go earlier than expected. Sounds like the 49ers are locking in on Mitch Trubisky QB N. Carolina.....Rumor has the Bears taking a QB @3(Watson)? .....And if they do ...Boy the panic shall begin. It will be a game of musical chairs...to see who gets left out of the QB derby.

I still think the Bears pass....

Buffalo could surprise @ 10 w/ Watson

Forcing Cleveland to go w/ Mahomes @12 .....

I don't think the Jets or Houston get cute.....Chicago has worked out Kizer a bunch...so I can see them going w/ him in round 2. Chargers have said QB early....Webb in round 2?

A lot of possibilities.

Whatevs. They will probably not go wrong with any of the players they draft in the first with the way this year is set up. The only four positions they would be possibly be overloading by drafting BPA would be QB, RB, G and C and there does not look like a can't miss prospect that would be there when they pick. Picking a "Tank Lawrence" level DE over ten year upgrade at LB, Safety or OT would be extremely foolish.
