Not really since his job apparently did not require that of him to make millions of dollars.
Doesn't matter. Someone does something for 14 years and then quits cold turkey - or so they tell us - has no reason for people to believe him.
Furthermore, I believe in the "If you don't do it in the small areas of life you likely won't do it in the big areas of life" principle.
Simply put, if you can't stop for whatever reason when no money is at stake, you won't if millions of dollars are at stake.

Punishing people for having depression/bipolar disorder by pushing them into isolation and making them feel even less about themselves is probably the worst possible approach you can implement.

I feel so bad for this kid.
That's what the idiot Goodell doesn't get.

Any word of this from anyone in the media? I've spun around the twitter world and can't find anything to validate this story in any way.

The whole thing is stupid.

Suspending Gregory or any player in the first place for weed is dumb.

Keeping him away from the structure of the team is dumb.

Promoting opioids instead is very dumb.

You could argue Gregory is also dumb for not being able to stay away, but we don't know the extent of his medical condition and he has maintained this is why he uses.

The whole thing is sad and stupid and totally avoidable.
This.

Goodell is a heartless idiot.

Treating Gregory like someone who decided to smoke weed at the club is the worst thing he could have done to him.

No sympathy for stupid people.. it's not like weed is addicting...or is it? Maybe it's just certain people have that flaw where they become addicted to something. I've neve had that problem.
It's not addicting, weak people with weak constitution is all. He may have a mental issue like anxiety disorder or something and tries self medicating which isn't the answer. He may not know he has an issue and never sought help as a result. Weed just helps him be able to focus, problem is you have to smoke more and more for it to help; when it stops helping that's when you go to heavier drugs... I've seen it before.

NFLPA boss DeMaurice Smith says he wants weed treated as health issue, like concussions

INDIANAPOLIS – The NFL Players Association plans to propose updates to the collectively bargained substance abuse policy that repositions marijuana use as a player health and safety issue, along the same lines as revisions to concussion protocol in recent years.

NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday the goal is to better emphasize diagnosis of underlying issues and treatment in the early phases of the drug program, rather than just getting players to stop smoking weed. And Smith said the union intends to hold the league accountable to make the necessary adjustments to a policy both sides agreed to in 2014.

“I think that there is a better way,” Smith said, “to evaluate players who test positive for marijuana to figure out whether or not they have just a recreational use issue, whether they have an addiction problem, but equally important, whether or not they’re using marijuana as a result of some other issue that we’re not even looking for – whether there is a depression issue, whether there is an anxiety issue. And currently, the way the system works, that evaluation, that therapeutic look at the player isn’t occurring...

as long as the rule states no smoking weed, players should face the consequences of its use if they break that rule no matter how YOU feel about its use. Period.

I have to wonder about his reality. From the outside looking in it seems awesome! But you never know what someone else is going through. I wish I was more compassionate but truthfully Im pissed. He let the team and the fans down and blew a golden opportunity. Of course he has issues. So does everyone else that screws up thier lives.
Yeah. Thats about it.

I have no experience with drugs. So, I have no idea what he or others are going through. We are all unique and have different DNA. Some medicine and drugs act differently in each of us. I seem to be allergic to most antibiotics and a lot of medical drugs where other people can tolerate them easily. Just the way my DNA is, I guess. Even the simple stuff like cold medicine on the pharmacy shelves doesn't agree with my body. Although, my doctor said a lot of that stuff on the pharmacy shelves shouldn't even be legal to sell.

I think it is silly that the NFL gets all bent out of shape when it comes to weed. The stuff will soon be legal throughout the whole country. It is just a matter of how soon. The big elephant in the NFL room is the human growth hormones and other stuff athletes are pumping into their bodies to get an advantage on the field.

If Randy has an illness, football is not the cure. He should quit and focus on recovery. The Cowboys are one of the most supportive teams when it comes to this sort of thing, but the rules are the rules until they're changed.

I do, too. The team was really trying to work with him through his issues, too. This has to be it, though.

Or you can question the validity of their rules and challenge the merit and push for change. I'm not a sheep that blindly follows orders.

The level of hypocrisy is unacceptable by the NFL. Heroin is a national epidemic, yet they act like its marijuana that's killing people left and right
