We can pick apart the study ( there are various studies done)... but shouldn't the focus be on why people are being punished instead of treated? You can't punish mental illness out of someone. Just like you can't punish Randy Gregory into getting better....the league is being ran with the same mindset we use to run our prisons. Punishment over treatment.

Why do people commit crimes? Mental disorder?

Lord help Randy for the sake of his newborn baby his family and him. Not saying this as a football fan but as a human.
seriously, this is straight up addiction. hope he can get the help he needs to break free

marijuana is not even bad for you, but addiction is.. whether it's snickers bars, midget porn, or heroine

Did anybody think he wouldn't smoke. He was trying to do right by going to rehab and things like that but yet because he missed a test got suspended anyways. In his mind (just guessing) he was like forget it im suspended even even trying to do right let me light up this purple haze.

Until is confirmed this is just a rumor

i believe the last occurrence was also unconfirmed for a while, then it came out that he just missed the test

unfortunately Gregory's benefit of the doubt went out the window a looooong time ago, i would wager a hefty amount this will turn out to be confirmed

Punishing people for having depression/bipolar disorder by pushing them into isolation and making them feel even less about themselves is probably the worst possible approach you can implement.

I feel so bad for this kid.

Whatever spin one wants to put on it....................... if this is true, there are no excuses for the kid. He's been given MULTIPLE chances.

Jerry Jones said Randy Gregory had the highest SAT score of any player they have ever signed.
He had a wonderlick score of 28 also. So much for him being stupid.

There is a difference between being pretty fat and being a shut in level fat. I know a very intelligent man who lost everything to gambling, then quit gambling and blew up to 430 pounds, got gastric bypass surgery and slimmed down to 200 pounds, became addicted to pain killers after dental surgery and lost everything including his children and his freedom. The guy is still very intelligent.
i never said intelligent people don't do stupid things. i'm pretty intelligent too but i've done some seriously stupid stuff when it comes to my health.

my choice. i blame no one and i claim no sickness. just things i was fortunate enough to live through and learn from.

i don't care how *smart* randy is - he's not smart enough to put away the J for a million dollars.

that's pretty stupid.

and again - if you are right in that he needs help, the last place to get it is the NFL.

And you being fat has much more with your diet than not exercising enough. Plenty of people sit on their butts all day and are skinny as can be. It's easier to blame lack of exercise than food consumption....if your lifestyle only burn X amount of calories per day then you can only eat X amount of calories per day or you will gain weight...
If you are happy with your weight and life than who cares. Be fat..just be happy my man and you won at life.

never said i wasn't happy, just that its not healthy. and there you go making decisions about me based on a few lines of txt and twist up what i said to fit your narrative but if someone does that to gregory - your shields come up more quickly then piccard calling for them when klingons uncloak.

No sympathy for stupid people.. it's not like weed is addicting...or is it? Maybe it's just certain people have that flaw where they become addicted to something. I've neve had that problem.

Weed can absolutely be addicting for some people. Look no further than Gregory for evidence of that. He threw away millions of dollars, let down his team, family, and friends just so he could light up. He couldn't break the habit. It's a real shame.

What is with people taking rumor as fact?

Title: UNCONFIRMED.

It's a rumor. Until we get confirmation and what happened, nobody KNOWS a thing.

mentally possibly sure but a mental addiction isn't the same as physical.

we've all said he's mental so no one is arguing that.

According to the CDC:

Some people think that marijuana is not truly “addictive” or that people can’t become “hooked” on the drug, but research shows that about 1 in 10 marijuana users will become addicted. For people who begin using before the age of 18, that number rises to 1 in 6.

Some of the signs that someone might be addicted include:

  • Unsuccessful efforts to quit using marijuana.
  • Giving up important activities with friends and family in favor of using marijuana.
  • Using marijuana even when it is known that it causes problems fulfilling everyday jobs at home, school or work.

Don't shoot the messenger.....

It is a total shame for this kid. So much potential.

"TMZ Sports spoke with multiple people with direct knowledge of the situation who confirmed Randy was tested on Feb. 21 and was informed on March 2 that his specimen came up positive for weed.

We're told Gregory has since blown off the NFL officials who tried to discuss the situation with him and people connected to Gregory tell us it appears his NFL career might be over."

hmmm I already have come to that conclusion many many months ago so this is truly a non-story for me. Sad but he had his chances.

Dude obviously cares more about drugs than football. I smoke and I could quit if I really needed or wanted to. It's not the addiction, he just doesn't care.

His (and our) only hope is that the NFL changes the marijuana policy. Which could certainly happen. So no need to cut him.
