Our biggest need: Backup QB

I think Romo is really our long term backup as well. I don't think he would have any problem coming in if Dak had a season ending injury. He might even do it for 4-5 games. It would not surprise me at all.

We could get a steal.

Otherwise your top bets are Kaepernick, RG3 (who is probably my second choice), Fitzpatrick/Ponder.

Choice is clear in my mind, sign Cutler as soon as possible.

I really believe they are going to stick with k Moore because they know if they need one long term, Romo will come back
 
I'm not totally against rolling with Moore, but Fitzpatrick is the better fit for us if he's ready to take that backup role again. And he'd be a good fit in the QB room.
 
The last thing our young starting QB needs is a joker like Jay Cutler behind him. Last year was unusual with Romo's situation. Most teams' back up QB is a Kellen Moore - some teams can't even find a first QB much less a second one.

As for the folks saying Romo would come back if needed, I think you're engaging in a comfortable delusion. Nothing he's doing or saying remotely suggests that possibility.

I think Cutler is the best choice, if he would accept the role of back-up. His delusions of grandeur however may prevent him from accepting that role. There is no way I'd want RG3 as backup because frankly, he's had one good year and many injuries, along with an attitude that he can't live up to. Kaepernick wouldn't have the support of the fans. I guess the best solution is to keep Tony in shape.

Pretty much the same boat.

I think Cutler takes it. He gets in for 2 games and has some solid performances, next offseason he will be fielding 15m+ contracts. He is still young for a QB.
 
Fitzpatrick, after Romo and Manziel. These three win games. Cutler doesn't fit here. IMhumbleO

Dunno bout dat.

Can't even take him seriously until he's shown some stability for a couple of years. Not the right guy now, maybe not the right guy ever.

You're talking about him walking from the broadcasting booth, not working out with the team as a second-string quarterback.
And even if he's working out on his own, many will tell you there's a difference between working out on your own and working out with the team.

So are you saying you think his body will be in shape to come from the broadcast booth into a game of meaning and respond like he never left the game?

If Dak has a season ending injury, Romo will come back. Moore will play one game while Romo comes back and practices for a week and then Romo will take over.

And you think after a week of practice Romo is going to be able to come back and the Cowboys won't miss a beat?
I originally postulated that Romo has a contingency in his CBS contract that if the Cowboys need him, he would be free to return. However, after giving further thought to this idea, I don't think it's likely that a 38 yo quarterback who has had back surgeries and who hasn't been keeping himself in football shape could be reinstated as starter and perform like he never left.

Romo is gone. Think about it ,his sitting in a both he is probably doing lite work outs Dak goes down and he is going to enter Pro Football real games out of football shape and not get killed!
 
Bottom line is, if Dak has a season ending injury, Jerry will be on the phone with Romo during a broadcast
and it doesn't matter what the fans think.

I would bet that he takes that call right away.

By the way, Moore deserves a bit more credit than some are giving out.

I'm on board with Cutler, as well. He can be very valuable for Prescott with the knowledge he has. Not to mention, he is a decent quarterback and can win a few games if need be.

Romo coming back and performing after a lay off as long as he has still seems more likely than Manziel winning us games if we signed him and had to play him.

(Not saying you were calling for Manziel; just making a general comment)
