No, don't do that. That was a joke. Don't take a joke and make it out as if it could be serious. You scare me when you do that, and it's not funny.

( :) )

Maybe if he's still playing in 5 years and we know he's got his feet on the ground.

Signing him as a camp body might bring the best out of him. Paint him in a corner with a 1yr $0 guaranteed deal and see what he can do. I have more faith in Manziel being a capable #2 than the noodle armed gunslinger Moore

Zach Mettenberger was cut today. Any interest?
Liked him as a prospect. We need to bring a few guys in for training camp, may give him a call.

Would prefer Manziel/RG3/Ponder/Kaepernick/Freeman, all before I would get to giving a shot to Mettenberger.

Top choice would be Cutler.

I am not too concerned, Moore can fill in a game or two... Frankly most of the backup QBs we had in the 90s weren't outstanding options, bjt were capable of filling in for a couple games.

Moore is the backup folks. The dude came in and threw for over 500 yards. He's one of the smartest dude's on this team and could be a coach. A lot of Prescott's development was attributed to him per various sources. This is all moot.

Still say most are too quickly disregarding Showers' potential return.

Dak won't have to take the kind of hits Romo endured for 10 years.

I think the Cowboys have learned their lesson in that regard.

I'll never forget Jerry Jones saying we don't need a good OL because we have a mobile QB.

I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to think. I wanted to tear my teeth out. Jump off a building. I didn't know what I wanted to do.

I felt like I had descended into an apocalypse. The horror of the statement.

The backup QB is not currently on the roster IMO. Someone (not Moore) will miraculously appear before Sept. Kind of wish they would have gotten Kaaya in the 7th.

Romo is on "plan B" right now. You don't think he would go back to "plan A" should the opportunity arise? He most certainly would.

Al Michaels and Joe Buck made $5 million, according to a USA Today report in 2012.

Imagine what some of those guys are pulling in now, ratings by and large with the exception of sports and WWE have crashed. Aikman could be pulling home 3.5m a year as an announcer. Plus keeping his name out there leads to a few mil in sponsorship money.

If Moore or Showers begin the year as the #2, that to me is support for this too-good-to-be-true theory that Romo and Jerry have had this discussion and, indeed, it's understood he'd jump back in if the need arises.

If we sign a legit #2, none of that applies.

He also has basically been notoriously lazy and still has managed to be a good NFL QB no matter what you say about him.

How good do you have to be to not even try and still be a top 12-13 starting NFL QB?
Imagine if this failure has the fire in him burning like it hasn't since his days lacing up in high school?

Having watched a lot of Chicago football over the years, Cutler was far from a "good QB" outside of his 2010 season. Josh McCown outplayed him in 2013 by a great deal with the same group of guys Cutler had around him.

Cutler has amazed people with his big arm - but mentally, he doesn't have it.

Which side of the coin?

Because I bet if we don't have a solid backup, come October if we are 5-1, 6-0 and Prescott goes down, my money is on a nice fellow named Tony to ride in on the proverbial white horse and take the mantle and lead this team.

Imagine if it worked, though? Imagine if Romo unretires and leads us to a win in the Super Bowl? It would dwarf anything in Cowboys history, probably anything in NFL history. I am all for that scenario, forget tanking for the future when history is in the cards.

What makes you think Romo can leave the broadcasting booth and returned under center without the Cowboys missing a beat?

My vote is signing Jay Cutler.

Choice is clear in my mind, sign Cutler as soon as possible.

Romo is finished as a quarterback in the NFL. I used to think he was a standby but not any more. You can't be getting fat in the broadcast booth and then return to playing football on am elite level, especially when you're as old and as frail as Romo.

I agree. I am not a Kellen Moore fan. Seems like a smart guy, but doesn't have the physical tools to get the job done.

Peyton Manning makes $15 million annually post retirement in endorsement deals alone, according to the Broncoswire 2016. That's the going rate for a QB that retires a SB champion.

No reason Romo couldn't make that same endorsement money if he comes back and wins a SB as a Cowboy. He can do that and make that announcer money you speak of once he re-retires. Keeping his name out there won't be a problem.

I find it surprising that it took 29 posts for someone to finally get it. Many forget Showers is a competent backup!
