I don't think we'll miss on him.

He's going to be a solid football player for us and I think that was the expectation for him all along.

To get a bigtime pass rusher at 28 would take some luck and he at least has the size to maybe be that but at worst he's versatile and can be a part of a group that has mostly above average Dlinemen.




Another thing.. The reports about Dak weren't very glowing this time a year ago and someone said Bosa was getting ate up in his first NFL practice.

I think we're making too much of yesterday and practice in general. Pre-season will start to give us a better idea.

What? It's not about the 3-4 having a pass rush advantage over the 4-3. It's the point that your comparison is essentially assuming that should Watt have a great season, we can reasonably assume he would experience a like season playing a completely different position on a completely different team in a completely different scheme. My point is that's not necessarily true. The truth is as a 4-3 de, he would most likely be used as a passrush specialist in the early going and would hardly see the field. Furthermore, Taco and Watt are two completely different styles of pass rushers. Watt is pure speed; he's not winning with strength against any NFL caliber OL. Watt simply doesn't currently have the physical makeup to do so. Taco has the frame to carry the requisite strength to be a 3-down DE, but he will require strength and conditioning to get there. My guess is we really won't fully appreciate Taco until next year.

But I wouldn't have any problem if Watt were here in a "specialist" role. If he's rushing the passer effectively, that's what the team needed the most.

Strictly rushing the passer? Yes, yes I do. But obviously I can't prove that one way or the other. As I've said, this team had no qualms drafting 235-lb Randy Gregory to play DE, or signing Mayowa at 240-lbs. pigeon-holing Watt as a 3-4 linebacker only is a mistake in judgement. The kid added weight, size, and strength in one year and can add more if they needed him to. And in my opinion, he's a better pure pass rusher than Charlton, in either scheme.

We'll see how it plays out.

I liked Watt, i think me and you actually discussed him a fair amount in threads.

But, there were plenty of questions about his ability to play on the line in a 4-3, and his injury history.

I think he could play in a 4-3 in a year or two. He has the frame. But, I actually think Taco will be a better 4-3 DE.

Watt went to a good situation, he'll do well in Pitt. I liked him more standing up, because hes better with a head of steam. I think their rookie years will be pretty comparable actually. They both went to ideal situations
