Today in Strangeness: August 18th...

On August 18, 1817, a special committee was set up to collect evidence for the Gloucester Sea Serpent, which according
to witnesses was between 80 to 100 ft. in length, with "a head as broad as a horse." On today's date in 1868, French astronomer
Pierre Jules Cesar Janssen spotted an unknown element in the spectrum of the sun, during a solar eclipse. The element is now known
as helium.

The Werewolf Cat:

Recently, vets in Cape Town were surprised to find a "Werewolf Cat" in an abandoned litter of kittens. The official name for this
rare breed of feline is Lykoi, and it's only been recognized since 2011. Groups of Lykoi are said to have a pack mentality like
wolves, but once they get know a human, they can be friendlier.

.2) Water...

Water frequently represents our emotions or our unconscious minds. The quality of the water (clear vs. cloudy; calm vs. turbulent)
often provides insight into how effectively we are managing our emotions. If you find yourself dreaming of a body of water like a
lake, pond, ocean, brook or any body of water you must also consider what else is in the scene. Often dreaming of water or drowning
can be associated with a negative element of your life such as debt. On the other hand, when you have dreams of water where the water
is clear and smooth it can be a good sign of things to come.

On August 21, 1879, apparitions of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. John were said to be witnessed by 15 people at the Knock
Parish Church in Ireland. And on this day in 1989, the space probe Voyager 2 reached Triton, the largest moon of Neptune-- the only

'Apocalyptic' Cloud Hangs Over Brazilian Town:

menacing-looking cloud. Looking like something out of sci-fi flick, the unusual formation lasted for only about four minutes.

Is this a cloud, or did something blow up!?!...

2017 Solar Eclipse:

That was special!...It's a great day my fellow Cowboy homies!
A total eclipse of the sun, visiable in the continental US.
In our area we get about 70% totality...not to shabby.

In the past I poked a hole in a piece of white carboard, and let the sun
shine through it and create and image on another piece of cardboard...
or I'd throw together a bunch of negative films and peer through
them...but this time I took the polarized sun filter off of my 6" scope
and viewed the event...it seemed to last a long time.

lol...talk about strange...it felt like I was in the "Middle Ages,"
"Confederate Yankee in King Authurs court" and all that. Loved it,
I hope many of you did also. TDM

In addition to being the first total solar eclipse with a trajectory exclusive to the U.S. since the birth
of America in 1776, it’s also the first total eclipse of the sun that will be visible from the contiguous
U.S. since 1979.

I pulled this off the net... Here's the link...enjoy!

Eclipse Flummoxes Flat Earth Fans:

Today's long-awaited total solar eclipse crossing over the United States is being met with consternation from Flat Earth enthusiasts who aren't quite sure how such an event is possible.

An enlightening survey of Flat Earth community members by the Philly Voice reveals that researchers of the controversial conspiracy
theory can't seem to explain how the highly-anticipated event fits into their cosmological world view.

Among the most prevalent theories offered by Flat Earthers is that there are heretofore undiscovered 'invisible celestial bodies,'
described in Vedic astrology, that somehow cause the eclipse to occur. But that is a contentious concept which is hotly debated by
researchers and other, less esoteric yet still rather arcane, reasons for the eclipse have been bandied about online as well.

With no consensus among the conspiracy theorists, the eclipse has caused many researchers to simply throw up their hands in confusion
over the breathtaking event. One member of the Flat Earth community told the website, "I find this eclipse topic so complex and very
speculative. I think it is best left alone for now." Another researcher conceded that "I'm honestly not sure what I think creates the
eclipse or what it means."

Showing just how difficult explaining the event in terms of the conspiracy theory is, yet another person who advocates for the concept
mused that, "we have to have something rise that causes eclipses in the flat-earth model. We think it's not necessarily caused by the
moon, though it could be."

Compounding the confusion is that the nature of the moon, itself, appears to be up for debate in the Flat Earth community as one
person shockingly remarked, "I really, really don't know what the moon is."

Despite all of this uncertainty surrounding the eclipse, Flat Earth aficionados hope that it will somehow provide evidence which will
strengthen their case and some research groups are actually launching balloons during the event to capture this potential data.

Additionally, taking advantage of the excitement surrounding the eclipse, an Oregon Flat Earth research group has purchased a
billboard in the state capital of Salem, where thousands of visitors will be flocking for a view of the event.

As in the past, the billboard buyers hope that the signage imploring people to examine the beleaguered conspiracy theory will
resonate with the 'eclipse tourists' who will be passing through the city during the event.

So while they may not be able to all agree on how an eclipse happens, the Flat Earth community remains committed to their cause and
aim to use the event to further spread the word about the odd concept. And, with the next total solar eclipse due to pass over the
United States in just six years, perhaps researchers can spend the time until then coming up with a theory that works within their
world view and thus avoid all the confusion plaguing the community today.

(...Figuring out what the moon is might be a good place to start!)

Giant Crop Circle Irks Farmer:

A massive crop circle that recently appeared in England proved to be an enormous headache for one beleaguered farm owner.
The jaw-dropping formation, which measures an astounding 200 feet, was discovered earlier this month on a property in the English
county of Wiltshire.

Unfortunately for the farm's owner, Shelley Klindt, her hopes that it would fly under the proverbial radar were dashed when drone
footage of the crop circle appeared online, unleashing hordes of onlookers upon her property. After word of the formation spread,
hundreds of people flocked to the farm to see the design, much to Klindt's chagrin, since as is often the case with crop circle
chasers, the visitors have seemingly made themselves at home in the fields of the farm.

"Eight or nine people were there camping out in the middle of the circle to watch the Perseid meteor shower," Klindt lamented to the
BBC, "and this morning I got a call at 4:30 AM to say there was a van with 'love' on it and a man with a magical cape dancing around
with incense sticks."

As one can imagine, the influx of curious crop circle seekers was pretty irritating for the farm owner, who had already lost an
estimated 8 tons of grain due to the undesired design. The property's impromptu transition from farm to tourist attraction forced
Klindt to bring in a cherry picker to allow people to get a better look at the formation without damaging more crops.

While she likely did not recoup all of the money lost from the creation of the formation, the farm owner charged visitors around
$2.50 in an attempt to at least provide some financial relief from the incident. And, fortunately for Klindt, the craziness conjured
by the crop circle was only temporary as a subsequent harvest of the field containing the formation essentially erased the design
and freed the farmer from her unwanted role as the proprietor of a paranormal mystery site.

On this date in 1873, an esoteric mystery of the Old West was solved when the first photograph was taken of the Mount of
the Holy Cross in Colorado. Stories of the natural snow cross had circulated amongst settlers of the West for years and were

finding the Mount of the Holy Cross and succeeded in capturing the unique formation on film for the first time ever, thus
proving its existence.

Creepy 'Ghost Children' Allegedly Haunt English Home:

A woman in England says that her family's home is being haunted by a particularly unnerving pair of spirits: two 'ghost children.'
According to Merryn Tuner, the family first noticing something amiss about a week after they moved into the house a few months ago
and began hearing what sounded like muffled conversations on the second floor when no one was there.

However, things took a more eerie turn when her partner seemingly heard children singing while all of the family's kids were fast
asleep. Beyond the odd noises, it would appear that the apparitions have a mischievous streak as books have been found inexplicably
knocked off of tables and the family's cat was once locked in a utility room. But perhaps the most unsettling experience was when
Tuner was sleeping one night and thought she heard her daughter get out of bed and approach her room.

The mom claims that she subsequently heard a knock at the bedroom door, but there was no one there when she opened it. And, in a
moment that would likely make most people run screaming from the house, Tuner checked on her daughter and saw she was asleep, but
then heard 'someone' whisper, "mummy."

Despite these chilling events, Tuner and her family plan to stay in the house, although they plan to enlist the help of "someone
professional" should the odd activity continue or get worse. Who, exactly, that would be remains undetermined, but we wish them
luck in dealing with what sounds like a truly creepy haunting case.

As they were eating dinner on Tuesday evening, Breanna Hernandez's husband looked over at the camera monitor and was stunned

The weird anomaly seems to resemble of 'being' that is quickly scampering behind the cars in their driveway. For her part, Hernandez
is convinced the cameras filmed a ghost, telling KRQE, "you can see the movement of either arms or legs going with the body as it
goes by."

While skeptics may scoff and say that the 'ghost' is probably an everyday object like a plastic bag, the potential ghost does,
indeed, appear to be running rather than floating in the breeze.

Turkeys Torment CT Neighborhood:

Residents of a neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut are crying foul over a group of wild turkeys that have seemingly declared war
on humans. It is believed that the problem began earlier this summer when someone in the community decided to feed the birds, which
wildlife experts say is a major mistake when it comes to turkeys.

Since that time, the birds have not only lost their fear of people, but now see them as challengers to their perceived territory.
According to local politician Steven Kolenberg, numerous residents have complained about the aggressive animals chasing after them
and some senior citizens say that they are actually afraid to leave the house because of the angry birds.

Additionally, postal workers have also become frequent targets of the turkeys, due to the mail carriers' daily forays through the
neighborhood. Making matters even more worrisome is that an elementary school sits at the heart of the animals' territory, leaving
residents concerned about the ornery creatures possibly attacking their children.

While Kolenberg hopes that the city's animal control department can put a stop to the turkeys' reign of terror, the politician is
prepared to take the battle to the birds should authorities fail to thwart them. "We need the community to come together and stop
feeding the turkeys," he told the Stamford Advocate, "and if they still continue to come around, we need to harass them and push
them out and make it uncomfortable for these turkeys to be in our neighborhood."

Odd 'Alien Insect' Found in Taiwan:

A truly bizarre-looking creature found squirming around on some rocks in Taiwan left onlookers scratching their heads.
Witness Huang Meilan managed to capture footage of the oddity that initially looks like a mass of seaweed, but then reveals
its animal nature when the creature begins moving.

In the video, those watching the insect-like 'monster' are clearly baffled by what it might be and, one would assume, a little
unsettled by its rather creepy appearance. As to what it might have been, the prevalent theory is that it was not one, but a group
of creatures in the form of several 'horsehair worms' that somehow wound up stuck together.

Alternative possibilities proposed include a mutant stick insect and the always-popular stranded alien on Earth.
Should the latter explanation prove to be true, then we probably don't have much to worry about when it comes to an
ET invasion since the creature looked to be pretty easy to defeat.

Will Planet X Appear in September?

With the solar eclipse having come and gone, believers in an impending apocalypse suspect that September will mark the beginning of
the end via the infamous Planet X. Astronomer and author David Meade, who previously warned that last week's celestial event was a
harbinger of doom, says that next month will see the arrival of the long-feared 'hidden' planet to fulfill that prophecy.

The rogue researcher cites not only Biblical passages for his contention that the End Times are upon us, but also alleged clues
hidden in the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza. According to Meade, there are two passageways found within the pyramid
which will align with the star Regulus as well as the planet Jupiter, respectively. What worries him is that this alignment just
happens to occur at the same time that celestial events seem to match a warning contained in the Book of Revelations. Taken together,
Meade suspects that all of the proverbial signs are there that the start of Armageddon will be sometime between September 20th to
the 23rd. It is at that time, he says, that Planet X will reveal itself and subsequently smash into the Earth and ostensibly wipe out
most of humanity and every other living creature living in our world.

How much time humans will have between the appearance of the notorious Niburu and when it destroys our planet is open to conjecture
as Meade predicted back in January that it would happen in October, suggesting that we'll all have a few weeks to wrap things up before
the End. At the very least, one would be wise to hold off on making their Halloween plans until sometime around mid-October, lest they
find out that they've wasted their final days on Earth crafting a Khaleesi costume that no one will get to see.

'Space Nation' Endures Tough Start:

A Russian industrialist's proposed 'space nation' is dealing with early growing pains that may keep the concept from getting off the
ground. When Igor Ashurbeyli announced the formation of 'Asgardia' last year, the idea was met with skepticism from legal experts and
scholars, but also generated tremendous enthusiasm from the general public. A whopping 300,000 people from around the world signed up
to take part in the effort, however their idyllic feelings appear to be faltering as the 'space nation' begins to take shape.

At the center of the conflict is a proposed constitution, which was unveiled earlier this summer and has spawned vociferous debate
within the online community of would-be Asgardians. Among the issues which have proven to be contentious for these aspiring space
settlers are whether or not there would be taxes in Asgardia as well as what currency and language would be used by the burgeoning
nation. Some are also worried about Ashurbeyli being named king of the space nation, although the founder says that he only intends
to serve a five-year term and that the country would be a constitutional monarchy akin to England.

A myriad of other arguments have erupted over various aspects surrounding the document, leading to a six-week debate that culminated
with a vote of ratification where only 110,000 of the participants accepted the constitution and were, thus, awarded Asgardian
citizenship. It would seem that the other 200,000 or so people who were hoping to join in on the nation building have decided to opt
out after seeing the logistical nightmare that such a concept created. For those who remain committed to the cause, the constitution
is just the start of many more challenges facing Asgardia, including receiving recognition from the UN and, of course, the whole
problem of actually getting into space. ...(and of course their nation would be the first to be attacked by hostile aliens!..."Live Long and Prosper!"
