It's not just the national anthem issues dragging down ratings.

The next generation of sports fan aren't as crazy about football as earlier generations. My kids grew up playing soccer. My son loves the NBA. The issues around head trauma in the NFL and football in general are taking a slow but steady toll. Beyond all that, you have massive amounts of cord cutting of cable / DirectTV / etc.
I think participation/playing in the newer generation are down for the reasons you cited, however I still think the NFL is far and away the most popular league for younger kids in North America. NBA a far second

People don't give a **** about the athletes, let's be real.

The NFL has way too many commercials, and the officiating is terrible.

No one wants to watch commercials with a little bit of horribly officiated football thrown in.
How many times you have to advertise ED pills and beer? I am sure everyone that needs or wants the aforementioned already know how and where to get it.

Nothing - that's just what they made it about. I mean, seriously...I'd challenge these highspeeds to find anybody who legit served and is mad about this. Probably a bunch of mom's basement call of duty wannabe basic training wash outs.

No there are some former members who find it offensive. My grandfather was one of them but he was an old school Vietnam vet.

Personally I feel the decline is because of the amount of commercials and ill feelings towards the commissioner himself and what he's been doing lately.

I'm not afraid to admit I switch off both ways at home. I'm too lazy to want to have to clean up the damn toilet when aim is poor (after about 6 fingers of scotch).

Amen brother, especially if I just need a second to be left alone and read about the Cowboys. I will however add, I pride myself on marksmanship.

None of my battles that watch football, none, are not watching football because of the protests. Sure, some of them don't like it, but none are not watching football because of it. We have an open text thread with ten people, and some are upset about it, but that's all.

People say "social justice warriors," but what of "anthem justice warriors"?

That's all this is. People that have done **** all (largely) for the country, want to have some sort of impact to feel special. Awe, how cute. You won't watch football because someone kneeled. Come here and let me pat you on your head, son.

I find it amusing that some people are upset because the "players" shouldn't be social justice warriors and use their platform. The NFL itself chose to be social justice warriors, more and more. They actively chose to be more public on how they pursue, enforce, and publicize personal conduct policies. The other professional sports leagues don't spotlight these issues the way the NFL attempts to. The NFL itself decided to use it's platform as social justice warriors and it opened the doors for it's players to do the same.

My grandfather was an old school vietnam vet who was one of the first African-American Soldiers to ever make it through OCS.

To the bolded - you can say that again. Kickoff - commercials - punt - commercials - INT - commercials - fumble - commercials - touchdown - commercials - end of quarter - commercials.

Football games are longer than baseball games!!

Please prove that the lower rating are tied to the player protest.

You are aginst it obviously and you still watch belied your theory.

And I do like how people have turned social justice into an insult.

And I assume it's also 100% fact that the drop in ratings has nothing to do with how many people are displaced or otherwise preoccupied with Hurricane Harvey and Irma

As do I - when I'm sober!

But sometimes I just wanna take the iPad and watch some locker room interviews without the risk of dropping it in a bowl of piss. Nothing wrong with that!

You are right about the media. They are expanding the racial divide in this country by focusing on the extremes rather than focusing on the good parts of society. Focus on what works and why it works and where there are not divisions and people will get a good picture of how racial issues can be overcome.
The racial divide is creating the racial divide in America.
