Romo last night

He pretty much coached our offense? I wonder if Garrett would trade jobs with him?
This is me watching a game that Garrett is broadcasting

Guys I wasn’t attacking Romo.

The reason he never won a Super Bowl wasn’t his fault. I recognize football is a team sport. The ultimate team sport.

That being said I was specially addressing the post that stated he never had a championship caliber defense which wasn’t true. He didn’t have one often, but he did have one earlier in his career.

He just happened to have an aging OL and average running game at the time also.

While the defense did let up a lot of points, I felt
Like that game got out of hand because the offense couldn’t hold the ball, had terrible field position and gave the Vikings defense turnovers.

Mind you, the offensive line was horrific that game. So again not Romo’s fault.

I am a huge romo fan btw. And he did carry the team most years. But he also missed out on some opportunities as well.
The only legitimate opportunity was 2014. And that defense was weak, too.

Tony played with horrific offensive lines and embarrassingly bad defenses. Troy Aikman has said Romo was a better QB than he was, and he's right. Troy would have been murdered with those teams, and they wouldn't have won 6 games any of those years.

In 2014, Romo finally had protection to go with his experience. That was a much better team than last year's.

Last drive?

Sometime around the 7 minute mark in the 4th quarter the Bucs has a 4th and 2 at around the 32 yard line, 16 - 7 ballgame. With as terrible as Folk had been I think with that score and at that stage you gotta go for it. Romo was insistent that you had to kick the FG there to make it a one score game. But that just isn't taking into account how bad Folk has been. I mean I'm not sure if this guy still has a job next Sunday (Folk).

Also, with over 2 minutes left in the game and one timeout, you essentially have two timeout remaining. Bucs kicked onside and handed the Pats a FG to make it 19-14. In that situation it is an absolute no brainer to kick deep.

Actually, it was clear that you kick the onside there. The Patriots can end the game with one first down either way. The onside kick gives you TWO chances at the ball instead of one.

And in a two-score game, you kick the field goal. You have to trust your kicker during a game.

The onside kick handed the Pats 3 points.

So you trust your kicker who has been distgustingly terrible, but don't trust your defense who had held the Pats to 16 points and harrassed Brady more than I've seen in a very long time. Interesting logic there.

Tom Brady needs one first down, and you're beat. You can either kick it deep and try to get that mandatory stop, or you can onside kick and get it right now, or if you don't, still have a chance to get that one mandatory stop.

The no-brainer is to onside right there.

The onside kick handed the Pats 3 points.

And you still get the ball needing only one score.

IT WORKED OUT IN TAMPA'S FAVOR! They had a play at the end to win the game. All they could have hoped for.

I think that's accurate

Apology not acceptable! To the pit of misery! Dilly, Dilly! Lol

I think this is the biggest mistake JJ made last year with the Romo situation. I would have done everything I could to keep him on the cowboys as a coach and have him coaching Dak... if I were Jerry, Romo would have been the highest paid QB coach ever.
Not realistic, too much of a distraction. Move on, even Jerry recognized that.

Listening to Tony Romo call the last drive last night explains why he had so many 4th quarter comebacks during his career.

Brilliant analysis. Called every moment perfectly.

He's better in the booth at this than anybody I've ever heard.

Let me add.

Boomer Esiason brought this up.

Boomer is so full of himself,

He said, “you know, Romo is doing play by play and calling plays befor they happen and Jim Nantz is allowing him to do so because everyone knows we former players can DO THAT”

He is full of crap.
He may recognize some things... but I am sure he can’t see most of the plays as they happen like Romo.

For two reasons....

1. Boomer has literally been out of the game too long.
2. Romo is better at this than boomer ever was. Period.

Yeah, I noticed that, too, E. Nantz is clearly enjoying himself with Romo. Asking him what the next play will be. Romo even jokingly asked Natnz what the next play would be and Nantz laughed and deferred to Tony.

They already have superb chemistry.

They're definitely making the game more fun to watch.

Interesting that Tony is an accomplished golfer, and Nance roomed with Freddie Couples and Blaine McCallister on the U of Houston golf team.
They should have some great golf outings during their travels, much like Buck and Troy. (should kick those old dudes' butts, though)

Just apologize and you will be forgiven....... well not completely.

The only championship caliber defense Romo ever had is right here at the Zone. You will soon see the error of your ways!

And ditch that screen name if you ever want to survive around here. We all know how sensitive Dak lovers are LMAO.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Romo, but a super bowl caliber QB can cover up a mediocre defense. eg Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers. He always had plenty of weapons: TO, Barber, Witten, Murray, Dez.I really felt the 2014 squad was special, but you can't beat the Packers and the replay officials.
Better question. When did he have a Super Bowl caliber coaching staff?

I get what you're saying. And I agree re: 2009. That was the game Ray Edwards ran a jailbreak and neither of our OTs could hold their blocks in the second have and Tony got annihilated. The defense wasn't good, either, but that game was a fairly grim forecast of what was to come in 2010. Which got Wade fired and led to Garrett getting rid of Colombo, Davis, and Gurode all in one offseason prior to 2011.
