Completely agree with your logic, but no way he makes $10m a year from CBS, right? Nantz is rumored to make around $7m and I would assume that includes all the other sports he covers. I would guess $4m for Romo, but curious what you based your number on.

I can't remember where I saw it posted but, I think he's making really good money. I also think Nantz is making more than 10mil per year.

Why would he ever want to do that. He works a paltry number of hours a week and gets 10mil per year to do it. Coaches, even head coaches make good money but, they have to work 80-90 hours per week to get it. Romo has young children and wants to be a dad to them.

Yeah, I think Romo will coach one day just because he's super competitive. Guys like that get bored easily.

But it won't be until his kids are grown.

The most entertaining broadcaster of all-time -- former SMU and Cowboys great Don Meredith, Jeff and Hazel's baby boy. Maybe Romo's TV career will eclipse his playing career, as was the case with Dandy Don, himself an exceptional quarterback.

Let me add.

Boomer Esiason brought this up.

Boomer is so full of himself,

He said, “you know, Romo is doing play by play and calling plays befor they happen and Jim Nantz is allowing him to do so because everyone knows we former players can DO THAT”

He is full of crap.
He may recognize some things... but I am sure he can’t see most of the plays as they happen like Romo.

For two reasons....

1. Boomer has literally been out of the game too long.
2. Romo is better at this than boomer ever was. Period.
Exactly.

In truth, very few quarterbacks can ACCURATELY do that. They can guess pretty well, but they aren't seeing what guys like Romo see.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Romo, but a super bowl caliber QB can cover up a mediocre defense. eg Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers. He always had plenty of weapons: TO, Barber, Witten, Murray, Dez.I really felt the 2014 squad was special, but you can't beat the Packers and the replay officials.

Drew Brees and Rodgers, the years they won their Super Bowls, had defenses that consistently took the ball away. Manning also had one of his best defenses when he won in 06.

Romo has legitimate defenses in 2007 and the 2009 season.

Especially the 2007 season.

Don’t get me wrong the loss to the giants in 2007 wasn’t his fault. I blame Patrick crayton for that.

But he had the defense.

LOL 09? They got hot for a few weeks and then were destroyed by the Vikings. In 07, we simply went against a better D. You know, the D that knocked out 2 high powered offenses.

They're definitely making the game more fun to watch.

Interesting that Tony is an accomplished golfer, and Nance roomed with Freddie Couples and Blaine McCallister on the U of Houston golf team.
They should have some great golf outings during their travels, much like Buck and Troy. (should kick those old dudes' butts, though)
That's exactly how Nantz and Romo became great friends before this booth partnership. They've been playing golf together for years.

I think this is the biggest mistake JJ made last year with the Romo situation. I would have done everything I could to keep him on the cowboys as a coach and have him coaching Dak... if I were Jerry, Romo would have been the highest paid QB coach ever.

Would you rather make $5 million a year for 30 hours a week and no stress.....?

....or $500K a year for 90 hours a week and tons of stress?

That's why great players who make big money don't get into coaching.

Go ahead and look up the defensive performances of those teams in the postseasons that those QBs won a Super Bowl in.

Peyton Manning was carried by stellar defenses in BOTH of his Super Bowl runs.

And in Bree's win his defense ended the potential game tying drive with a pick 6 to seal the game. 4 of Brady's 5 wins required some serious defensive playmaking.

The teams that win Super Bowls usually have playmakers on defense. Not a ton of bend but don't break defenses on that list.

Stardate 2217.5 - The longest running message board thread bringing together fans tormented over an ex-NFL player not receiving his due, nor reaching a Superbowl, much less a Superbowl victory hit a new milestone as the debates and suffering for a footballer who played 200-years ago still grinds on. Tony Romo, who played two centuries ago in the early 2000's for the Dallas Cowboys is still mourned by fans, all of which now never saw him play, yet continue the observance. Guinness World Records states a thread on CowboyZone.com about Romo's unfulfilled respect is the longest message board thread known to exist, eclipsing the Kim Kardashian thread entitled, "Booty, Ridiculously Large or Just Right," that ran well into 2097.

A candlelight vigil exalting the retirement of Romo will be held sometime in February of next year 2218. Please contact the event holders if you wish to attend at GeezGiveItARest.com, or see their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/why/didn't/stan/lee/make/him/a/super/hero/in/a/comic/book/damnit.92

Did he? In which postseason did he have a Super Bowl-caliber defense?
Not 1 yr that he played did he have a SB caliber defense. 07 his OL fell apart in the 2nd half as they were old and the defense still sucked. In GB with Murray was his best real shot, still with a subpar defense. 4th down, Game on the line the Gunslinger launches a beautiful pass to Bryant...we all know what happened next. Romo was most definitely a SB caliber QB, hell freeking Eli has two...all due to his defense and some magic unicorn dust. Romo was never afforded the same unfortunately!

Are you saying Romo was not a Super bowl caliber QB?
really?

And in typical Cowboy fan fashion, looking at the shiny object skill guys and not the trenches.

Brees and Rodgers have won exactly 1 SB each.
Are you saying they weren't Super Bowl caliber QBs all the rest of their careers?

Anyway, that Brees offense was once in a decade type stuff, and even then, the defense excelled at takeovers. They still could've easily lost to the Pack in the semis that year.

It all has to go right.

Actually, it was clear that you kick the onside there. The Patriots can end the game with one first down either way. The onside kick gives you TWO chances at the ball instead of one.

And in a two-score game, you kick the field goal. You have to trust your kicker during a game.

Agreed. I swear half the people that post have no IQ when it comes to football. This isn't college, and they have a good kicker, he's just in a mental funk and you gotta trust him until you can replace him.

That's my point, I would have significantly outbid any network that made him an offer. Ever since last year, I believed that played a much bigger role in Daks success than anyone has ever admitted to.
