I'm a big believer that Passing Offense and Passing Defense determines games.

However, there is a threshold where the running game can take over and win games. If you can gain--or if you yield--near 6 yards a game...that's usually going to swing a game.

Teams consistently sitting at 2nd and 4...are going to shred you.

In our 3 losses the Dallas D has allowed this to happen:

Broncos...5 yards per carry
Rams...5.5 yards per carry
Packers....6.4 yards per carry

Our secondary has been decent. (Linebackers in pass defense is a different story) But the front 7 has been a train-wreck in terms of run defense.

On Sunday--for the first time--we'll have Lee, Hitchens and Irving all suited up. The time is now to start stopping the run and if the boys can do it...the narrative of the season will change.

It can happen. But also Marmalade Marinelli better stop with his patented, conservative, bull****!

Let the players play, and make a play.

To turn around the season.........

1) The run D has to improve significantly. They survived last year on defense much of the year because they forced teams into 3rd and long situations. This year, they can't stop the run and it's leaving teams in way more favorable situations than last year.

2) For the love of God, figure out a way to get some turnovers. What's bizarre is that we are getting to the passer more than last year and yet still can't force turnovers. You have to hope the addition or Lewis and Woods and hopefully Awuzie soon leads to more plays being made in the secondary.

3) Someone has to seize the LG spot and start mauling people in the run game.

4) Somehow have to get Dez and Dak on the same page.

Figure out those, or at least most of those, and there is no reason this team can't make the playoffs.

I'm a big believer that QBs, offensive lines, and defensive lines win games.

If you're good in all 3 areas, you'll win more often than not. If you're good at 2 of 3, you'll have ups and downs. If you good at 1 or fewer, you're the Cleveland Browns.

You are seeing proof of this in our own division.

Eagles have gotten solid QB play, good OL play and their DL is the bomb. They are 5-1 and looking like a legit team.

We have gotten solid QB play, decent OL play but poor DL play (at least up the middle and in the run game) and we are bouncing all over the place right now.

The GB gameplan was to limit Rodgers and dare the GB running game to beat them.

That was the right gameplan but without Lee or Paea it didn't quite work. They held Rodgers to 221 yards and almost won the game. If both Lee and Hitchen had played they likely would have won.

Lee and Hitchen will be back but 1-tech might be an issue. Price is strong but inexperienced. Irving and Collins both played some 1-tech but that's not their forte on run downs.

Yes...and no cavalry coming this season to address the situation. With a bushel of draft picks we can certainly hit this need in the draft.

This is the only stat we need to fix: Turnover differential

NYG +1
@DEN 0
@ARI 0
LA -2
GB -2

Specifically, that we have generated 4 turnovers in 5 games.

Yes...huge factor. Your data seems off to me in the GB game...we only had one turnover that I recall...the deflection off of T-Wil.

You might be right - I think there were some weird statistics generated by the end of game ladder-drill type kick return.

And to fix the turnover problem we need to mix it the hell up.

Let's press more on the outside and man up and send some pressure at the Quarterback.

I like the word Exotic in many aspects of life and football plays is included in that. It's time for us on defense to get aggressive and take some chances.

We do that and the turnovers will come. I can live with the occassional big play given up if we keep scoring 30 plus a game.

Make it happen!

We had better hope that Price can be an effective piece of the puzzle on run downs. He is our best chance.

If I were the Cowboys, I would be looking to trade a late round pick for a space eating disruptive 1 tech to a non contender. It would be money well spent as long as we are in the hunt for a playoff spot.
