$4M first year cap number and leading the league in interceptions.

Nolan Carroll counts $2M this year, another $2M next, and played in 2 games without recording a single statistic.

You get what you pay for.

We could have easily signed Hyde and we'd be a much better team for it.

Can't believe you actually typed that.

But you have an agenda.

How many bad high price free agent signings do you want me to list?

But you have an agenda.
My "agenda" is the Dallas Cowboys getting better and contending for Super Bowls. Boooo me.

How many bad high price free agent signings do you want me to list?
...and I can list the ones that worked out. Why does it have be overpaying free agents versus not signing any quality free agents? There's a huge in-between.

Please list them (that aren’t our own)

Leonard Davis made multiple pro bowls for us
la Roi Glover made multiple pro bowls for us
Deion Sanders did too
Charles Haley did too
Terrell Owens did too
Brandon Carr was more solid than most give him credit for

Bad ones off the top of my head (that weren’t Re-signings)

Marco Rivera
And who else ? Greg Hardy But was he really bad ? NO

COmplaining about the wrong things. Other than Paea, not one of these guys was signed to be an impact starter. They were all here to compete and and hold a starting roll until the youngsters were ready or if they were busts. Blanton sucked and had nothing to offer. Moore and Carroll were both injured or suspended when needed the most in September. I’m glad they were released when the insurance was no longer needed.

If you want Jerry to start signing front line starters who will start for the next 2-3 years as impact players, that’s a fair argument, but this offseason was all about shoring up positions prior to the draft and then having veteran starters until they were no longer needed. We got what we paid for, other than untimely injuries, and those guys weren’t very good, but luckily our rookies are.

They weren't going to give Hyde 5 years and $32 mil.

The problem is they should have signed a guy like that. He was affordable to them and would have been a major upgrade. Hyde is definitely a mid-level FA signing for a high performing SS. Only $14MM guaranteed and his cap hit is never more than $6.7MM in a given year.

Oh I know they wouldn't sign a guy like that. But that's because they have a ridiculously flawed FA plan.

Anyone that lists Charles Haley as a free agent signing...

Well I know they're a piker.

Jerry did it because he couldn't draft and always overestimated the talent he had and thought he was closer to a playoff run than, in fact, the club was. He was playing at being a GM without the skills to do so. Things have improved in recent years but at a very slow pace. The club needs to improve its Defensive side drafting. Maybe bring in aDefensive specialist to advise Mc Clay and associates. The club can fill a spot or two with a decent FA but the road to the SB runs through the Draft.

This is all people are saying. Few, if any, have suggested they just splurge in FA and not try to continue to get better through the draft. What people are saying is that the team has gone to the ridiculous extreme where they think the draft is essentially going to fill every hole they could possibly have and because of that, they just sift through the crap bargain bin hoping they get lucky (and surprisingly, they keep failing).

No, they shouldn't have gone after Gilmore or Bouye to sure up the CB spot. But *******, they should have looked at a guy like Logan or Poe to give them a real 1 tech and not some off the street guy with an injury history that was cheap as hell and Marinelli really wanted. And maybe, spend the $6-7MM per year to bring in a legit, productive, very good SS in Hyde.

How much better does this team look drafting like they did and then having Hyde playing SS and a guy like Logan at the 1 tech? Better than they look now, that's for sure, and the deals they signed easily could have been met by the Cowboys. Logan or Poe aren't even committed to their existing team beyond this year, so there was little downside there.

Carroll made Carroll expendable. There was no "plan" where this team gives a player $4 million for one freakin' game. None.

I don't care if Jourdan Lewis is Deion Sanders, that's still no reason to cut what would then be a backup player to lose $4 million and depth at the same time. Zero reason.

LOL.

Swear I didn't see your response before you posted this.

In all fairness, 2 of the 3 were more or less cut because players we gave drafted or invested in have shown up. Carroll cut after Lewis & Woods play well, & Moore cut after greay play by Both Lawrence & Irving.... Paea retired due to his knee, cant do much about that one.

When they cut Carroll, they had depth issues still at CB. Awuzie was still out, Scandrick still had the hand issue and they had to play Woods at CB at times.

They cut Carroll because they realized he sucked mightily and with a concussion he was less than useless. It's convenient to say he simply got beat out because it helps lessen the realization that they made a poor decision in signing him to begin with.

And decided Nolan Carroll was better.

LOL. Think about that for a second.

The problem with Mo, wasn't the quality of his play in '16... Even though the quality of his play in preceding seasons was sub-par to awful.

Mo spent more time in the trainer's room than he did the practice field.

Couldn't count on him.

Does that mean you think Lewis is playing badly?

Carroll. The bar Carroll set was extremely low. He was an awful CB and a dumb signing. And again, stop with the stop gap nonsense. They (read Marinelli) thought he could play and tried for two offseasons to bring him in.

Their ability to scout defensive talent is definitely questionable at this point.
