Passes over the middle!

We'll never truly know what this offense is capable of until the JG is replaced, but as we know, this won't happen anytime soon. It's frustrating to watch the passing side of this offense. Tired of watching WR fight for the ball when it goes 10+ yards.

What I don't understand is the 3rd and 5 scenario that plays out multiple times each game. We send everyone 20 yards down the field except for Beasley who runs a quick stutter and then drags across the middle. Or he does the opposite and runs a short out (with the same stutter). Can we at least give Dak 2 options on the play??? Opposing D's are now doubling Beasley and forcing Dak to check down to deep receivers. We are forced to throw medium to deep routes for no gain or Dak gets pressured into a sack or throws the ball away. Just seems a strange play call when all you need is 5 yards.

What about the 4 yard routes on 3rd and 5? We've been doing it for years.

This is what happens when you use "Offense for dummies" as your playbook.

How about a ******** rub route on 3rd and short or 3rd and medium.

On 3rd and 5 or less. I see other teams run, rub routes to give their WR’s seperation and allow for fairly easy conversions. It happens ALL THE TIME across the entire league.

The cowboys almost never do it and when they do, the execution usually sucks.

It’s maddening.

Had a few people over yesterday, so maybe I missed a couple of plays. I have to ask, why we don't use the middle of the field in the passing attack more? Everything is outside of the hash marks.

The TD passes to Wit and Rod were over the middle.

We should have scored 30 on these guys by halftime, I know we won and all, just frustrated with the design and play calling in this offense.
Good idea, Smith took the ball to the HOUSE !!!

Romo didn't like routes in the short middle area of the field.

There was a game agajnst the Niners when he got picked multiple times in that area and they changed the routes after that.

Witten and Beasley almost exclusively run short routes, and our system is designed to give them the space to work underneath by sending the outside receivers deeper.

Problem is teams have started taking away anything inside for Beasley.

Exactly and our veteran play callers are too dumb to adjust.

JG's system is based on our version of Air Coryal offense from the 90's. Troy and Irvin lived off of the slants and Harpers big plays came off of deep post. The 90's offense is design to attack both the middle and the sidelines.

I remember there were talks on how they were trying to minimize Romo's interceptions by changing the passing offense. In his early days, Romo's INTs came when he was pressured up the middle and he would just chuck it to the middle. I think they were trying to minimize this by having him throw more sideline passes and less to the middle.

I would agree that Parcells wanted to 'calm' Romo down, but Parcells is conservative by nature and a control freak. If your referring to Garrett, those are just excuses and blaming Romo for his own failures. The excuses during those days were that he was checking out of run plays called. Even Garrett tried to throw the blame on him saying Romo should have run against a stacked box when he clearly shouldn't have..

Romo's TD/INT ratio is pretty much right where Matt Ryan's is and Matt Ryan didn't have to deal with this clown as OC..

The main fact of the matter is that Dallas offense is primarily to attack the hashes, just like they use to do with Zampese and Norv. The route tree's are based on Sid Gilman's route tree of stretching the field.

Been going on for years. Romo would at least try to improvise once the play broke down. Dak at least is young enough to have wheels to make a play with his legs. The scheme is terrible.

Actually, yesterday was the first week in a few that Dak had success over the middle. That is why he has struggled all year IMO. Teams have taken the middle of the field away from him. He looked more comfortable yesterday in the pocket than he has all year. Dak is not going to have success on a regular basis outside the hash marks IMO. That is not the type of QB he is at this point.

Credit where credit it due. In that Skins game, the O coaches got righteously skewered for bad play calls when the Skins were basically giving the middle of the field.

This game, the coaches attacked it, including that big play to Smith in the 4th.
So a adjustment...10 days later, but won't see it again till next year:(

Guess your not a Dak fan. That’s to bad. He’s going to be our QB for the next 12-15 years.
I'm a fan of all Cowboys...cept Garrett.

I'm saying the O might be limited somewhat due to the coaches still trying to ween Dak off the spread concepts from college.

News flash:

This is NOT JG's offense. The architect is Scott Linehan. Linehan designs the plays and also calls the plays.

This has been pointed out 500x on this site and still posters can't buy a clue.
