Final Dak thread - How many QBs in NFL would you want instead

Is Foles better than Dak. He had a couple of great seasons, but the the QB killer Jeff Fisher destroyed him. Jeff also made Geoff and Case Keenum look bad

I would trade him right now for...

Wentz
Goff
Garoppolo
Wilson
Watson
Mariota
Cousins
Trubisky
Luck
Rodgers

I’m on the fence about Stafford, Ryan, and Dalton.

Like it or not, Dak gets one more season. And I think he should. He was good enough as a rookie that I don't think it makes sense to give up on him. I don't think he should have a leash that extends beyond next year if he has another year like 2017, but I think it's premature to throw him in the dumpster. The Cowboys aren't going to draft a 1st round QB anyway, so he will be the best chance the Cowboys have at QB in 2018.

Nick Foles wasn't an option for Cowboys, and now he's in Super Bowl

FRISCO, Texas -- Nick Foles, Super Bowl quarterback.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has to be shaking his head this morning.

At the state of the Cowboys press conference to kick off training camp in 2016, the Cowboys were peppered with questions about their backup quarterback. They spent the offseason going with Kellen Moore as Tony Romo’s backup. They had Jameill Showers and fourth-round pick Dak Prescott on the roster.

Foles was released by the Los Angeles Rams prior to camp starting and led many to believe the Cowboys would look at a more seasoned veteran than Moore.

"Foles isn't an option,” Jones said, jumping in to a question with a matter-of-fact answer. “We wouldn't get him any snaps. We got four that are going to get the snaps."

Foles had experience against the Cowboys from his first time in Philadelphia. He even beat them in a winner-take-all Week 17 season finale in 2013. But he was largely ineffective in three previous starts --all losses -- against the Cowboys with two touchdowns and one interception.

“We know Foles pretty well,” Jones said. “We like Moore.”

Then in the first week of training camp Moore suffered a broken ankle that would knock him out for the season, putting the Cowboys on the lookout for a veteran quarterback.

The Cowboys had discussions with Foles’ agent as well.

Jones’ initial comments did not play well with Foles when the quarterback was looking at options. He chose to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs, reuniting with Andy Reid. He played in three games and started one for an injured Alex Smith.

The Cowboys eventually decided to stick with Prescott and Showers behind Romo, foregoing a look at a veteran quarterback. Then Romo suffered a compression fracture in his back in a preseason game and would miss 6-10 weeks. The Cowboys made some more calls for a veteran quarterback and had discussions with the Cleveland Browns about Josh McCown, but their asking price was way too high.

They opted to go with Prescott. He responded with one of the best seasons in NFL history for a rookie quarterback in directing the Cowboys to a 13-3 record.

Jones’ decision to go with Prescott was the right one then.

But Foles has the last laugh, even if he was bad against the Cowboys in Week 17, completing four of 11, 39 yards, one interception before Doug Pederson chose to go with Nate Sudfeld in the first half.

And now Foles will be playing in Super Bowl LII against New England.

Moore, by the way, is expected to be the Cowboys quarterbacks coach after spending most of the 2017 season on the practice squad, having been beaten out in the preseason by undrafted rookie Cooper Rush.

This is true and I agree you give Dak every chance to be the guy so you don’t have to start over but eyes definitely need to be open about what his current skill set is which affects how to judge the talent around him. Also affects what scheme should be run. HINT: it’s not Romo or Aikman’s offense. I actually think Phillys offense with misdirection and sprint outs would be great. Of course it would be nice if Dak could throw it past 5 yards like Foles

Final Dak thread? Not likely. I won't even ask how you arrive at who is better than whom since they all play on different teams with different players around them and different coaches. Your opinion is only your opinion and not fact based. It can never be fact based.

That's fair and about all we can do at this point. Let's see what's he's got next season.

Let's add some talent like the Eagles did in FA, set Dak up with some new weapons and see what happens. He has enough good qualities to find out don't you think

This might be best way to sum up where we are with Dak. Taking all 32 teams and saying if Dak is better than their starter (or in case of Philly their backup)

Washington - Cousins - NO
Giants - Eli - Tie
Eagles - Wentz/Foles - NO to both
Bears - Trubisky - Yes
Packers - Rodgers - NO
Lions - Stafford - NO
Vikings - Keenum - Yes
Saints - Brees - NO
Falcons - Ryan - NO
Panthers - Cam - NO
SF - Garoppolo- NO
Seattle - Russel - NO
Rams - Goff - NO
Arizona - Skelton - Yes
Bucs - Jameis- NO
Bills - Tyrod - Yes
Dolphins - Tannehill/Cutler - Yes
Jets - McCown - NO
Pats - Brady - hahahaha
Bengals - Dalton - Yes
Browns - Kizer - Yes
Steelers - Roethlisberger - NO (this is who I want Dak to pattern his game after)
Ravens - Flacco - NO
Titans - Mariota - Tie
Texans - Watson - Yes (Don’t have enough info on Watson and haven’t seen if he can throw)
Jags - Bortles - Tie
Colts - Luck - NO (if Luck is healthy but Dak is better than Brisset.)
KC - Smith - NO
Denver - Lynch/Osweiler/Siemian - Yes
Oakland - Carr - NO
LA - Rivers - NO

So after that scan Dak is about 21st in the league. And anyone that begs to differ don’t use his rookie year numbers. I’m looking at decision making and arm talent. Find me video of Dak’s passes and decisions being better.

Scene 1, take 500. Yeah lets do this the entire off season!
