1. Many QB coaches are former backup QBs. In fact, backup QBs are more likely than starters to become coaches
2. On IR last year, he prepped and broke down film. That's what a Quality Control coach does. Many QB coaches work up from that.
3. Both our QB and OC value his contributions.
1 To call Moore a "former backup" is quite generous. He was a borderline PS squad player for his career. How many years did Wade Wilson play? Jason Garrett? Those guys had careers.
2 And how'd that work out for Dak this year? Did he improve, or regress?
3 They probably value the contributions of the water boys too.

Making too much of this, if it happens. Linehan is developing Dak. We’ve also got another long time QB on staff in Garrett. We can afford to go with an inexperienced but promising QB coach if we want to. Yes, I’d prefer he start as an offensive assistant, too. But it’s not going to matter. We’ll have a very experienced offensive staff, overall.

Although he was not drafted in the 1987 NFL Draft, Payton tried out for the Kansas City Chiefs for one day. In 1987, he played quarterback for the Chicago Bruisers and Pittsburgh Gladiators during the inaugural season of the Arena Football League, before his rights were sold for $1,000.00 to the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. He was also a member of the Chicago Bears squad of strikebreaking replacement players, known as the "Spare Bears", during the 1987 NFL players strike.[12] In 3 games he completed 8 of 23 passes (34.8%), for 79 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 INT, a passer rating of 27.3. He was also sacked 7 times for 47 yards and had one rush attempt for 28 yards. Coincidentally, his one interception came against the New Orleans Saints, the team he would later go on to coach to a Super Bowl victory.

In 1988, he played for the Leicester Panthers of the professional UK Budweiser National League. Payton landed the starting quarterback role for the Panthers. Payton led the Panthers to a touchdown on their first possession. That same season saw the Panthers go to the Quarterfinals of the British League, eventually losing to the London Olympians after Payton returned to the US to take up a coaching position.[13]

1. Please. He's been in the league for several years. You don't have to get in games to be in meetings and learn the nuances of pro offenses.

2. Dak had an amazing rookie year. He had several games with a far weaker supporting cast this year. It's a team game.

3. Perhaps someone values waterboy contributions. Every so often someone likes one of your posts, so I guess that is possible

Linehan, Garrett, and Moore were all here this year while Dak regressed.

I think we should be doing something to buck that trend instead of perpetuating it.

Dak didn’t regress mid season after a season and a half because of the continuing QB coaching he received.

You guys generally need a little better understanding of cause and effect. He regressed when his protection broke down and he was sacked 12 times in two games. As will happen.

I actually think Moore is going to be a good coach. But not here for Dak. How can Dak take coaching from a player who doesn't have the fundamentals, or couldn't even beat Dak out? It's just weird. It would be different if this was some veteran such as McCown or someone like that.
That's the weird thing for me. Not saying it can't work, but it's just...odd.

The problem is you don't develop a 3rd year qb with a guy who has ZERO coaching experience. If Moore was some kind of assistant who helped develop the gameplan, cool, but as the guy who is supposed to help Dak develop his mechanics, you go for experience.

The Cowboys shouldn't be where newbies are given coaching positions. Hire one with an impressive resume.

For the record, everybody hated Wade Wilson, too, with his long playing history and resume.

This would be really dumb. I'd rather have but fumble. Because apparently he was huge in helping dak in 2016.

Especially when we're trying to groom a franchise QB who regressed in his second year.

Getting Dak right is the most important task this offseason.

You can't really develop a qb's mechanics with the new offseason rules. Dak will need to do that on his own and hire someone. Hopefully someone like Mike Lee.
