UC in the last Universe I was in the Cowboys were a great organization who had a winning tradition and quality coaching staffs

At some point I obviously popped into a parallel one where
Kellen Moore is the best we can do for a quarterback coach:flagwave:

Moore may be a good qb coach. teaching is the name of the game. He is a young mind. With his lack of physical gifts he had to do something right to get as far as he got. What did Wade Wilson ever do? im willing to see what he can do. Its not like he is the OC. He may be a diamond in the rough , maybe not. We shall see.

------You can't really develop a qb's mechanics with the new offseason rules. Dak will need to do that on his own and hire someone. Hopefully someone like Mike Lee.

How do you develop a right handed QB's mechanics when you are left handed....it's NOT the same. I can spot flaws instantly with my friends who golf right handed....but left handed would be a little tougher. And he is going to be NEW at this....not a great choice..

Interesting point about right/left handed. Never heard anyone make that point before.

Maybe Dak didn't regress this year, but the NFL just rapidly caught up to his less than impressive ceiling?

1. Many QB coaches are former backup QBs. In fact, backup QBs are more likely than starters to become coaches

2. On IR last year, he prepped and broke down film. That's what a Quality Control coach does. Many QB coaches work up from that.

3. Both our QB and OC value his contributions.

That's a good bit more than you'll get for most candidates.
It is truly out of the ordinary to see this occur, however, I think of it in terms of perhaps the reverse of the Peter Principle - he might have been an incompetent QB, but he may rise to the level of his competence. You don't necessarily have to be a great warrior to devise a great battle strategy.

For me, it is not the fact that he has no experience, ya have to start somewhere. My big problem is that he will be from the same offensive tree. I also fear that he works his way up the ladder knowing only this putrid, stale and old offense.

I would feel much better if he was exposed to other types of NFL offenses and learn a different scheme or two. He may never know or be able to develop his own style of coaching here in Dallas.

Like I said many weeks ago, be prepared for him to be the OC and maybe eventually HC...........Garrett 2.0.

The kid would fare better if he started learning in the College ranks and get some experience, preferably something different then what Dallas does on offense.

Jerry found him another project at the fans(and Dak's) expense

It is truly out of the ordinary to see a former player move to position coach?

It is sorta common actually.

Sean Payton & Scott Linehan were nfl washouts. Maybe Linehan just identified someone much like himself. Moore has been with Linehan as a "player" for six years. Would someone who did quality control for another team a couple of years really be a better addition? I don't think so.

Maybe they identified something but with a still green QB under center I would prefer to not have both of them learning on the job.

And I doubt that the only candidate for the position outside of no experience is one with only a couple years.

The Kellen choice is odd to me because Dak has already been coached and mentored by him since the beginning. He always praises Kellen. But what more could he learn from him in this critical year that will help improve his game? Will it just be more of the same? He needs a QB guru to get his mechanics in order.

Making too much of this, if it happens. Linehan is developing Dak. We’ve also got another long time QB on staff in Garrett. We can afford to go with an inexperienced but promising QB coach if we want to. Yes, I’d prefer he start as an offensive assistant, too. But it’s not going to matter. We’ll have a very experienced offensive staff, overall.

Exactly, Linehan is the QB coach and Moore is becoming the Assistant QB Coach. And Dak called Moore a genius, which has to count for something.

I’m trying to imagine any other team besides Dallas that would name Kellen Moore it’s QB coach. That’s not intended as a knock on Moore, but he’s not even 30 and has no prior coaching experience. Seems a little early to give him this kind of responsibility. But hey, what could go wrong with a Jerry Jones coaching staff?

Give me a break. If that was the case then why even have a QB coach in the first place?

If you want to delude yourself into thinking the QB coach has an insignificant role particularly with a young developing QB then fine but said QB already regressed last year with a better QB coach than Moore will be next year.
