I do not see any difference between that play and the Dez play in 2014 *merged*

After skying high to catch the ball and coming down to the ground with each step. He had possession, 2 feet but did not make the football move that would have undone the going to the ground rule. There was no lunge. He intended it but did not execute. Therefore, once the ball hit the ground and came loose, there was no catch. There are rules that govern this.
Wrong. Dez landed on two feet with control, turned...football move...took a step...football move...changed ball to his left hand...football move...braced and extended...football move.

There was a difference Dez went up and highpointed the ball. As he was coming down his momentum/body lean was taking him to the ground therefore the ball had to survive the ground. The Philly receiver had his feet firmly on the ground, was in control of his body when he made the catch and established himself as a runner. It wasn’t until after he established himself as a runner that he dove to the endzone. If you can’t see the difference in the two plays you’re either blind or stupid. Not going to argue the play so don’t bother.

Wrong. Dez landed after leaping to grab the ball and came down with each step he took all the way down to the ground. Steps don't matter when you're going to the ground. Didn't change hands, he took one hand off the ball and did not execute a lunge/reach. Once the ball hit the ground and popped out it's a clear no catch by the rules.

Whatever! What needs to be asked is what tight end on the roster can beat Jason mccourty one on one on the outside. The answer damn sure ain’t Jason Witten, but keep playing 100 percent of the snaps.

At least I’m not the only one here who knows the rule. Exactly, steps don’t matter when a receiver is going to the ground.

I thought it was incomplete, don't think it changes the outcome of the game.

The one to the running back might have though and I thought the Eagles caught a break there, although it was a close call.

Yup. Emotion never sends people straight to the rule book so we're gonna have this for a few days on here. Or maybe a few years, lol.

This thread could last until the draft. lol Most don’t care about the rule book, they make up their own rules here.

Here is the difference....

I clearly see a big difference...

One play gave a Superr Bowl title to an undeserving bunch of pukes....While this play kept us out of a title game.

Dez high pointed the ball.... ran 3 steps, and lunged to the end zone. So how was he ruled as going to the ground? I think that's what people don't agree with.

Could be. But the next "we wuz robbed" event for the emotional ones will be the schedule release that will somehow be unfair and biased against us. Then it'll be time to piss and moan about who we picked in the draft a week or two later.

Oh lord, here we go. Here's the difference. Dez jumped up to highpoint the ball and Ertz caught the ball while on his feet taking 3 steps and then executed a proper lunge/reach. Dez did not do the last part so the going to the ground rule applied. Just stop.

you're blind brotha. dez high pointed caught came down switched hands and made 3 steps. the nfl has no credibility. this game was called specifically to make brady and bellicheck come back next year.

Because he didn't execute a lunge. And he didn't run 3 steps like Ertz did. He took 3 steps as he landed on his way to the ground. When you go to the ground the ball must survive the ground. It did not. Therein is the difference. Don't get how folks can't see this.

Are people not paying attention to Dez and Ertz' positioning when they grabbed the ball? How are people not seeing the difference that makes all the difference?
because that has nothing to do with it. dez caught came down switched hands and took steps and scored. the part where it popped out and was re caught was identical

I knew when that play stood this thread would appear. It’s going to get pretty ugly in here before it’s over. It’s going to be a repeat of all the threads we’ve seen on this topic the past three years. Better strap on your chin strap.

You don't switch hands when you take one hand off the ball. It means you took one hand off the ball. He shouldn't have and then he could have kept it off the ground. He does that and it would have been a catch, even though he lost possession and regained it.
