Greatest Album of All Time

If double albums count then I can pick two right?

DSOM

and

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
To be played at maximum volume

although

Back in Black and VH1 would runs a close second...

Do both albums have the same name? (Hypothetical question)

Hmm. That would require an album where every single song on the album is top notch. There are not many of those.
  • Ride the Lightning
  • Master of Puppets
  • Back in Black

Too many I like to narrow it down to ONE.

Might be able to break it down in genres or subgenres or niches.

Like best thrash metal guitar album Megadeth Rust in Peace. The rhythm guitar is great but the solos in some of the songs take it to another level.

Best overall thrash metal - Metallica Kill em all or Master of Puppets.

Ozzy Osbourne Randy Rhoads tribute album - could fit into many different categories (best live solo Mister Crowley), Best classic metal or hard rock depending on your view

Maybe Black Sabbath - Paranoid for best metal riffs

So on and so on

No, you are cheating and both will be disqualified. The fact that mine is a double is only a bonus.

OK, let me make this easier. You are going to spend the rest of your life on a deserted island with one album, what is it?

Zep IV, Kind of Blue. Probably should put a hat tip in there for Rumors, even though it's not my cup of tea. It was influential enough.

Appetite for Destruction is on my personal list. I don't have many albums I can listen too cover to cover and not think there's an uneven song on it, but that's one.

Great album.

So many good selections on here and a lot of it comes down to personal preference, but if I had to pick one.

The album was released in 1973 and spent over 700 weeks{15 years} on the charts and has sold over 40 million copies alone.

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy
Beg, borrow or steal
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say
All that you eat
Everyone you meet
All that you slight
Everyone you fight
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side of the moon really.
Matter of fact it's all dark.

Wow, really hard to narrow it down to one but, if the definition is ".. If you're alone on an island", I would probably go with Rumors.

If I could expand it a bit: Born in the USA by Springsteen, the Beatles White album, Who's Next by the Who, Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Graceland by Paul Simon and, drum roll... The Four Great Tenors.

Another fine selection.
