I don't think Dallas will cut him until next year but his contract is an albatross around this clubs neck, Dez is a good receiver, but he isn't anywhere near elite but is getting paid as one....it would be a shock if he's cut this year but it would be a step in the right direction but I didn't agree with extending Witten either last year.. this team has got to get more dynamic and speed on offense..

At some juncture, we're all about to discover whether this is simply blustery posturing by Stephen or not. There was definitely no hint in his statements of the situation being a "take it or leave it" position. Both sides will likely be forced to make compromises before their standoff is resolved. Far more often than not, contract negotiations are ultimately settled in that exact manner. It seems likely to me that neither side is in a very strong position to stand fast. ;)

Dez is a proud man. At some point he has to decide
  1. Do I spin this as a team’s best interest in winning and let them reduce my cap hit, or
  2. Do I risk the embarrassment of being forced to take a big cut in salary anyway because I get no suitors for my current contract?
Plenty of teams will be interested in Dez; I doubt any team will want him at his current salary.
And that’s the thing. Dez will have to take less wherever he goes you’d think?

But there might be someone who thinks they can do more with Dez and willing to anty up.

And that’s what Dez will be entertaining. Otherwise he could remain here for less.

Right now, I think we are looking at the last two years of Dez in a Dallas uniform. It is unlikely he gets that third contract in Dallas.
For sure, 2018 and 2019 are it, but he will be over 30 then too

Right, this is just typical talk of what we have seen before about players.
People will make their own interpretations on their own feelings or what they want to happen.

That never happens on message boards. Wash your mouth out with soap.

The problem is that in his mind he really thinks of himself as an elite player when everyone else clearly see's that he's not. And then to not even be open to discussing to a salary that is more in line with his last few years of production shows it's all about him and not the team, then mix in he thinks every pass needs to target him and he proves it's all about him.........his little temper tantrums are getting as old as Garrett's incessant clapping.

C'mon you guys, y'all know as well as I do what will happen here. It's not big news at all. Dez's contract will be re-structured (extended) to reduce the cap hit in 2018. 4 things are going on here: 1) negotiations with Dez's agent and posturing; 2) negotiations with Tanks agent in terms of doing a long term deal to avoid the tag; 3) having some cap space to possibly sign Hitch; and 4) working with Zach Martins agent. This all part and parcel of negotiation, cap space and building the best team possible going forward. It ain't all about Dez.

This is the first time I can honestly say I'm not sure Dez will be a 2018 Cowboy. But One thing I am 100% sure, he WILL NOT be released. With the thin crop of WRs in the draft and one, maybe two, free agents receiving tags from there team, Dez's trade value is pretty high IMO. No question we can get a 2nd rounder, maybe a first.

Another thought.....can we use his value to move into top 10 of the draft.....

Dez's trade value is not that high given his declining production and his massive contract.

There isn't a frog's chance in hell you'd get a 1st or 2nd rounder for him.

Stephen's comment tell us nothing. On the one hand he praises Dez so highly that it would seem they are saying no way we're letting him go, then he says "it's a business", which indicates he will be cut/traded.

Just normal NFL doublespeak. We've seen other owners/gms say they "anticipate" a player staying, the next day they are released or traded.

lol, nowhere close to a 1st or 2nd....if we can see his decline, NFL GM's can too...........can see it now from a GM...hey, Dez Bryant is 30 yrs old, and into a 3 year decline, I think I'll trade a 1st round pick for him.

Argue any of the points that I made. How does his salary compare to his productivity?

You "lol" all you want. Nobody's trading for him. I'll be sure to remind you when it doesn't happen.

You're right, no one is trading for that contract. He hasn't been the same since he rushed back from that foot injury.

He hasn't had the same QB either. Either he or Tony was coming off injuries, then there is inaccurate Dak from last year.

The draft is full of #2 WRs. Like it or not Dez is the closest thing to having a #1 WR next year. No free agent or draft pick will replace even Dez’s low production next year.

Perhaps they are able to draft someone that can be a #1 in 2 years and cut Dez next year but doing so this year would not be a wise decision

That is true. Only Ridley looks like a 1 to me. Someone will probably emerge unexpectedly from this class but it's not a strong group to find a lead receiver.

However, I think getting rid of Dez Bryant is addition by subtraction. You can be less talented on paper but more productive on the field getting rid of that headcase.
