Fire Jason Garrett? Then You Would Have Fired Tom Landry

Garrett losing to Aaron Rodgers once is bad enough but losing twice with the second loss throwing the ball on the 8 yard line when they should of been running the ball to burn up clock is complete stupidity! But thats just part of the reason Garrett needs to be let go. This team has become so predictable and is refusing to do anything new offensively it has become a joke. Even Chris Carter the Cowboy hater said the Cowboys have become too reliant on their oline and Zeke and they dont get the ball outside to their WRs or RBs. Defenses have clogged the middle and Dallas has become a battering ram and you cant play 60 min of that style of play. He said there is no creativity to the offense and that they dont make big plays down field and its just too hard to constantly put together 15 play scoring drives. He said they have no speed on offense and Jason Witten is a player who can contribute but doesnt have enough speed to be anymore than a role player. He said Dez doesnt get separation and that all out WRs pretty much get tackled right when they catch the ball. He said its all a combination of Garretts scheme and also needing better play and speed at the WR and TE position.
Did Chris Carter mention why Jerry intends on keeping Garrett and why he brought in an inexperienced coach like Garrett and the effects of a GM like him?

Curious since you appear to follow the gospel of Cowboy hater Carter?

Im normally not fan of his but happen to hear a quick round table segment and would say Carter nailed it. The discussion was what do the Cowboys need to do to get to the SB.

I think Carter isnt going to state the obvious! Its pretty much a given the owner is gonna do things his way! Maybe he is lobbying for a head coaching job in Dallas. hahaha

It was the same as a draft but he got to chose veterans

Let me ask you something. If you were given a choice to either have the Cowboys participate in the 2018 draft or pick 3 unprotected players from each of the other teams, which would you prefer?

Any discussion on what the Cowboys need to do to get to the Super Bowl that doesn’t include Jerry’s effect which includes why Garrett is here and remains to be here is not a round table that will be fairly depicted .

As usual when an opinion aligns with yours we are more apt to promote regardless if the persons narrative is agenda driven.

Forgive me if I'm not impressed with some of you guy's ability to travel back to 1967 and predict Landry's future success. What he was in 1967 was the "Coach Who Can't win the Big One"

I sure would love to have Garrett rise to the level of getting that reputation. At least Landry choked playing for the league title by his seventh year.

The “expansion franchise” crap don’t wash after the first few years. It still took Landry 11 seasons to win his SECOND playoff game.
you do know that until 1967 there was only one so called playoff game each year; it was called the Championship Game. So for 6 years there was only the championship game to go for. Two what we would call divisions but then were called conferences.

None of the 8-8 team or worse making it as a wild card or winner of a pathetic 4 team division.

It was tremendously harder to make the Championship game back then then it is now. Most of the talent was concentrated in a relatively few teams. So to BUILD a team that could challenge for the CHAMPIONSHIP - not just the playoffs, was much harder than todays watered down parity driven league.
So I was quite happy to educate you.

Yep.. doing things his way includes hiring a coach like Garrett, asst coaches not necessarily under the HC , promoting a backup QB, supporting an undisciplined WR while pursuing potential suspended players , injured and drug proned high draft picks.

Ok... here’s the groceries and best facilities . Now cook them up the best you can. And don’t complain. If you have any success I’m taking credit. Good Luck!!

We can all spin the facts to support our narrative.

The fact remains Landry struggled early on in the playoffs beginning 1-4 with a talented team. No shame in losing the first 2 against the team of the 60’s but next two losses to the Browns when we were favorites were widely criticized which also contributed to Merideth retiring early.

Fact is Landry was a legendary coach and everything the Cowboys became should be credited to Tom, Tex and Gil. But Tom had some struggles winning the big games against equal or better teams losing more championships than he won. That’s fair criticism.

Yes, by all means, lets compare a coach who inherited a franchise QB and a draft eligible team to a coach who took over a new franchise without the benefit of a draft and had to build it from scratch.

But also playing in a vastly different NFL under vastly different restriction. So don't just say he had a franchise quaterback, the team he inherited was broken, salary cap restricted with no defense.

I can agree on that; sometimes Landry outsmarted himself. And that I believe was not ego but sometimes he over estimated what needed to be done to win and made things too complicated.
You notice the most trouble he had came from two coaches; Lombardi and Noll. Two coaches that had very basic and simple systems. Landry seemed to have trouble dealing with simplicity.

Landry also inherited an expansion team which could be built through the draft..........no free agency. back then. Garret inherited Tony Romo. Amzing how many folks can't tell the difference between a superior football coach and a puppet.

And that team was saddled with an inexperienced HC in training who had no concept of clock management or in-game adjustments. Different year, different players, same results. But the excuses for Garrett keep coming.

And Landry had no FA at all - so there was very little movement of established players. Breaking into that is a lot harder then it is now.

Oh and by the way that same D you said did not exist was one of the best in the NFL in 2009. And there was still a fair amount of talent there in 2011.

Now for more excuses for the Clapper...

Deep down, most won't admit they really don't believe in him any more. But after years of defense, they cannot just acknowledge being wrong.

Dollars to donuts, those who still support Garrett hated Phillips and mainly because Garrett gives the impression of being stately, they bought in hook, line and sinker.

No tha

Which was the same results as some of our experienced coaches. Parcells come to mind. Do you know how many coaches around the league get criticized for clock management? All of them....lol

Sometimes your beat by greater talent and coaching . Sometimes there’s upsets. That’s doesn’t mean your not a good coach or lack talent .

I’d argue both of Garretts loss in the playoffs against the Packers while both winnable games were against better coaching and talent at least at the QB position.

It’s not like we were blown out. A couple of plays in each one were difference much like with Landry in the early years. In that respect there are some comparisons.

exactly which means you had the benefit of keeping teams together longer in one system, with the same philosophy. As far as us getting free agents, the team was cap stricken and has been barely able to sign any free agents of any substance other than Carr. In 2009, Wade was the Head coach an DC, who's defense came back the next year and was worst in the league under him, while the offense produced under Garrett.
