Jerry finally makes some pragmatic comments

Yeah, I mean what bit us in the end with Romo, a stubborn refusal to draft a QB and develop him, should be a learning experience. I think we'll draft a QB this year. UDFA maybe but does anyone feel supremely confident in Rush. If we rest on our laurels with the most important position on the team, QB, we've learned zip squat!! Who was waiting in the wings when Aikman finally succumbed to injuries? Who was waiting in the wings when Romo succumed? Now contrast that with NE. Who was waiting in the wings when Brady went down? Who was waiting in the wings when Favre's carrer was at an end. That's the mentality we need. It's not like the signs weren't there with Aikman or Romo? Jeez be a little proactive, go back to the draft in 2019 if Dak doesn't progress. Frankly I think he will but the proof is in the actions not the thought
Rush will be interesting to watch this year's training camp

Take advantage of the situation. Who knew. It's only the first rule of a competitive situation, or even life.

The draft and training camp can't get here soon enough.

Maybe another Dez Bryant thread to help pass the time:)

Now that is a post worth ruminating on. All the threads come back around, and around, and around. How many months before kick off ughhh

prag·mat·ic
praɡˈmadik/
adjective
adjective: pragmatic
  1. dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.

Not the same.

Jerry Jones knows the Cowboys are in a must-win mode now with Dak Prescott playing on his rookie contract. “He’s going to get his extraordinary contract, but while we can put the team together and take advantage when he is on this contract right now, we’ve got to be real astute to maximize that advantage,” Jones said. “We’re a team that has a high priced offensive line, and it gets a break with Dak right now. It gives us a chance to do some things on defense. This basic dynamic of salary structure won’t be with us but for a year or two. So I guess what I’m trying to say is we need to take advantage of where are contracts are.”
I really hate it when Jerry tries to sound smart. We all know he won't shut up. Just say what's on your mind Jerry. You aren't the smartest person in the room and look like a jackass when you try.

Garrett certainly has a spotlight on him. My narrative is 19 is the year
You mean the 2019 season or January 2019? 2019 will be the last year in Garretts contract. If they go 6-10 and Garrett is back in 2019, then it will confirm to the rest of the fanbase that Jerry doesn't care about winning.

Jerry will honor the contract with Jason what you decide to think about it is up to you

At least Jerry is an honest voice in the room...even if what he says doesn't cut the message as desired. But in today's NFL, just exactly who does?

-------Why would he bring that up then? No excuses for JG next season.

Hahahaha.....how many times does he have hint about some changes after S hole seasons....and then nothing happens....will it take to convince some of you never to believe that he will do the smart thing? If The Clapping Carrot makes the playoffs next year, he will be back in 2019....even if it's a 1st round exit. If we have a major injury and barely miss the playoffs, he will be back in 2019. You know, the "team didn't quit" thingy.

will not happen all though drafting a QB later is prudent

Thinking about it more, I wonder.

Since Aikman left, hasn't Jerry been trying to find a QB on the cheap?

And of the guys he's drafted, it's all a similar mold - a runner/scrambler instead of a pocket passer. We did trade a pick for Henson, but McGee, Carter, and Dak all had mobility but accuracy issues.

He stuck with Romo when he really proved himself and was largely carrying the offense.

I agree that's it's unlikely, but there are some reasons to think it possible. And it's more or less my model for a team. Build up the rest, try to hit on a cheap QB. I think QBs are coming into the league with a lot more experience passing with the college ranks turning pass happy.

It is all fun and games to dream and think of ways that things will change if we sign this free agent, draft that player.

But then, this man opens his mouth and it serves like a gigantic kick right to the crotch.

And we endure this every. Single. Offseason.

Where do I line up to bash Dez?

It would be very ballsy of Jerry to let Dak go when his contract is up. If you could build a team, and bring in QBs on the cheap, you would have a big advantage in the NFL. With a strong defense in 2016, Dak could have easily taken us to the SB as a rookie. Why not other QBs?

It will be interesting to see if they draft a QB with a real pick this year, giving us a backup who could take over come time Dak's contract is up.

In the highly unlikely event that Mayfield lasts to our pick I would lose my **** if we didn't pull the trigger on him.

I would hate it. I don’t mind a QB but when Georgia tightened up coverage agianst OU he wouldn’t take shots down field, couldn’t throw into the tight windows, and couldn’t throw his receivers open.

Oddly enough, those are the same complaints we have of Dak.

Don’t replace Dak with a QB with the same issues.
