Jerry finally makes some pragmatic comments

As long as Jerry keeps paying the Clapper to blow games, I have a hard time believing he cares about winning.

And now "Dak is going to get his"

Why is it in Dallas that nobody ever has to actually earn a dam thing? Be it the head coach, the QB, the coordinators, nobody ever has to earn anything in Dallas, its just handed to you by default as if its your birthright.

JJ IS A SHELL OF THE OWNER HE WAS IN THE 90'S. Which is why Stevie and Will McClay are running the player personnel part of it. His words mean NOTHING.

I quit putting too much stock in what Jerry has to say a long time ago.

He usually talks a good game but altogether too often, fails to deliver.
BECAUSE HE ISNT RUNNING THE PLAYER SIDE OF THINGS ANY LONGER...FOR YRS IN FACT. HE IS NOTHING MORE THAN FODDER.

I do agree he's stepped back significantly from where he once hovered over things but he'll still argue that he has the final say. Of course, Will McClay and the scouts have improved things markedly from where we once were but Jerry is still around to muck things up if they let him. They have yet to lock him in the broom closet. ;)

Thinks have improved and when McClay was offered a job it was nice to see he is sticking around Dallas.

Shhhhhh! nobody is supposed to know that.

I'm betting other GMs around the league are well aware of it. Evidently, the title doesn't mean that much to McClay. He gets to do his job unimpeded by the threat of being blamed for whatever whiffs he might make. Jerry is still around to take the blame as the GM. How convenient is that? :D

Yeah, I have no idea why Prescott's huge contract is being talked about as a "given" by Jerry Jones. This organization should be looking at 2018 as a crossroads season at quarterback. He either shows that he's the guy, or he doesn't and you look to someone else.

But it's no certainty that Dak is this team's franchise quarterback of the future.

Well .. technically we have won 3 Super Bowls in Jerrys tenure .. now if you mean we are not winning another Super Bowl until he dies .. well history supports that theory but we still just might .. even the sun shines on a dogs arse every now and then .. so there’s always a chance

Yes, just like Al Davis who also won 3 Super Bowls, of course his last one was in 1983 and he passed away in 2011, so he didn't win anything in his last 27 years.

Our last Super Bowl win was in 1996, so we are at around 22 years now.

So yeah, we're all waiting.

Jones has this undying (pun intended with this word) affection for his own players and coaches....he is still playing madden with his billion-dollar product, he thinks he can out-think other players in the billionaire's club (he can't)...he leaves coaches on the team because HE brought them in...players stay WELL beyond their usefulness (see: Witten, would love him to stay, just at 50% snaps or so) because they have special meaning to Dallas....please, treat the roster as though you don't care who comes and goes and then you can get somewhere (see: New England)...

@Verdict mentioned about what if Mayfield was there around our pick? that wold shake things up with this team DRASTICALLY...while I think he likely goes in the top 7 or so, my GOD, I would fall off of my chair in excitement to see him brought in...I am already jealous of the team that drafts him....

The mere fact that this is even news is a prime example of the situation we are in. Let's see a show of hands for anyone here that didn't realize any of what he said.

And that admission that Dak is going to get a huge contract, is that excusing it forward for more cap mismanagement? The QB salaries are out pacing the cap growth and something has to give. They're projecting Cousins at 30M a year and what happens when the cap, a direct result of the broadcast contracts, start the other direction?

Every position wants more when the cap grows but the disproportionate amount going to QB's is going to have a negative effect. Now, Antonio Brown is in at 18M and Beckham wants 20M.

So, lemme ask you this. The ratings are down for a variety of reasons and they desperately need to stop the continuing decline and the all out Greed Gold Rush is on. Think that appeals to the fans or turns them off?

With the contracts for quarterbacks going higher and higher, Jerry Jones knows the Cowboys are in a must-win mode now with Dak Prescott playing on his rookie contract. “He’s going to get his extraordinary contract, but while we can put the team together and take advantage when he is on this contract right now, we’ve got to be real astute to maximize that advantage,” Jones said. “We’re a team that has a high priced offensive line, and it gets a break with Dak right now. It gives us a chance to do some things on defense. This basic dynamic of salary structure won’t be with us but for a year or two. So I guess what I’m trying to say is we need to take advantage of where are contracts are.”

Sounds good except the part about Dak getting an "extraordinary contract."

At least he understands a little bit about the cap and the opportunity that is before us. Starting last year and for the next two years there is an incredible opportunity. To NOT have the contract of a Romo and the bargain of a Dak gives us a nice window to pump up the team. Of course Jones isnt good enough to do that. But at least he sees it sitting there in front of him. Getting rid of overpaid/underproductive contracts like Dez, Crawford, ect....ect.... would be the only ways to do that. Which of course they wont.

I am more accustomed to comments like this: "I’ve been here when it was glory hole days and I’ve been here when it wasn’t," Jones said. "Having said that, I want me some glory hole."

"the new coaches didn't have time to implement their new schemes. wait until next year once they get to know each other better"
2019 "the receivers couldn't get open and the offensive line was hurt again.. (one guy) and the coaches forgot how to coach"

lol.... naw .. super bowl this year...
