Are the Browns really going to pass on Darnold?

I heard the same "issues" about Watson and Wentz though.. now that they're superstars they didn't have issues. Darnold is that guy this year, it's very clear. He is probably better suited for the NFL than even Watson was; as much as I thought Cleveland should have taken Watson this is such a no brainer. How are people paid to do this for a living, day in and day out this incompetent?

The issues facing Wentz and Watson were not the same that Darnold is facing.

Wentz and Watson's questions were around the ability to transition to the NFL, playing in more college style offenses. Neither had the reputation of being a bad decision maker like Darnold has dogging him.

As
They can't be *this* stupid, right? I mean at this point they should truly be abolished. Finally; get the #1 pick and a chance to take a QB, he's right there. They've whiffed on Wentz, whiffed on Watson... here's Darnold...

And they're gonna take Saquon Barkley.

Good God they don't deserve to be in this ******* league anymore. I hate them with every fiber within me
As it stands, more and more are almost equally projecting Darnold, Allen and Rosen at the top.
But yes, if they think one of those guys (doesn't have to be Darnold) specifically is a sure-fire franchise QB, you'd think they'd take him.
If not, they will be able to get one of them at 4

I would actually take Nelson at 1 as I think he will have a 15 year career. No QB’s will be there at 4.

I sometimes wonder if there is some curse on the Browns like the Red Sox and the Cubs had. No team in the last 25+ years have screwed up the QB situation like they have. First they dump Bernie Kosar who still had several years of good play left in him as was shown. Then they proceed to pass on every good QB and draft every bust since then.

Add stupid ownership with no patience and the ability to find bad GM's and HC's all too often.

Darnold has as has been pointed out averaged 1 turnover per game for the last 20. THAT is a HUGE red flag to me. To be blunt I am not particularly impressed by any of the top QB prospects this year.

The SMART thing for the Browns to do is to trade one of those picks for more picks; they still need about 8 more quality players to really be competitive. Then use the one they have left to go BPA. And look on next year as the one to get a QB since that crop looks better anyway.

Do they need an interior OL though? I thought they were pretty set at OG.

I think you are seeing why they are open to trading the #1 pick. Even if they could slide down a few spots. They could then take Chubb and then even still get a QB they like.

Am I the only one that's not all Impressed with Darnold?, Whever I saw him play he was constantly turning the ball over

Nope - right there with ya. He didn't handle pressure well at all in the games I saw. Doesn't bode well for facing the NFL pass rushers.

They have the 4th overall as well, it is a crap shoot with the top QBs, but on the other hand Barkley is a virtual lock.[/QUOTE

Exactly. Let's be honest, none of the "top" QB's is so complete to warrant a 1st round grade. They all have major questions and the only reason they get drafted that high is supply & demand. I think it would be smarter for them to go after one of the FA QB's than draft one in the first.

I would draft where they sit or trade around with one or both of those picks. If they came away with Barkley, plus say a WR & secondary player (assuming they trade around) to pair with the talent they already have & a viable QB via FA, they are probably whipping some tail come fall.

They are set on the interior. Probably more practical to take a T to develop behind Joe Thomas who was injured last year. Which they could slide back & do. Garrett, Ogbah & Chubb? Would not want to be an AFC north QB if that came to pass.

Odd year for them as there are no top 10ish OTs.

Honestly, if I were them since I am not enamored with any of the QBs (there is no Luck in this draft), I might try to move down a slot or two, take Chubb and Barkley and grab Keenum. I think with a decent coach and a loaded offense around him (they also have a bunch of twos and threes this year too) Keenum could work.

If I was running the Browns I would take Barkley then Nelson at 4. Barkley is a once in a generation talent and Nelson w ill open holes for him. The Eagles won the SB with Nick Foles at QB so that's proof there is more than one way to win in the NFL.

I am praying the Browns do not pass on Barkley because if they don't take him the Giants will and the Cowboys will face him twice a year.

Because they are the Browns and their is a reason we say that as an insult in the NFL.

What they need to do is go all out for Kirk Cousins. If hes not showing that he wants to come to your club in your early attempts to sign him then move on to Case Keenum as your backup plan before someone else scoops him up. If they end up with Case Keenum instead , draft your favorite QB #1 overall and let him develop behind Keenum for a couple years. Then at 4 take the best non QB on the board. Gonna be either Barkely, Nelson, or Bradley Chubb. Take Oline and WR help at the top of the 2nd round or trade back into the first for an OT.

if CLE goes w/ a veteran QB (Cousins, Bridgewater, Keenum, maybe Foles), they could do a whole lot of damage with this draft.

CLE has draft picks galore & money to burn.

Signing a vet QB means they could go Barkley #1, OL or trade down at #4 and STILL have the 1st pick of the 2nd round (#33 and possibly still #34).

If they had a competent front office, they could turn that franchise around. As a football fan, I envy the position they're in (just not how they got to that position lol)

but...Browns gonna Browns.

AJ McCarron will be the bridge QB the Browns sign, IMO.

The Browns could take Barkley with the 1st pick.
QB with the 4th pick....especially if it is Baker Mayfield who IMO has more heart and competitive spirit in him that the dog pound would fall in love with him.

They would have a decent oline, wrs, rb, developing te and now a QB who might just be who the Browns and Dogpound fans need.

And they could still get a Vet QB for a short period to let Baker sit on the bench until they fill he is ready.

Crazy thing is...the Browns could actually use their first two picks in the top ten and they could then bundle their 3 2nd round picks and be worth 1400 points on the standard trade chart which would be enough to get to pick #8.
