Olawale's arrow doesn't need to go up. He's a complete fullback now.

Smith is a solid player. He's a good run blocker, not bad as a run blocker, might be good for a dive play or two and shows good hands out of the backfield as a short-range outlet. He's also a core special teammer.

Olawale is a pretty good run blocker, good pass blocker, can make plays as a runner and as a receiver and is a core special-teammer.

I don't think we have to like one or the other of these players. Both have their value. I just believe from what Olawale showed while he was here and even more after he left here, he offers more as a runner and receiver than Smith. The rest pretty much equals out.

The only thing we don't know for certain is why Gruden wanted to replace him with Smith. There's a post in this thread about Gruden wanting a better run blocker, which Smith is, but not to the point where that would seem to be a deal maker. My thoughts on it are that Bissacia's familiarity with Smith as a core special-teammer was the primary selling point. Olawale has been a core special-teammer with the Raiders, but Bissacia doesn't know him like he knows Smith. It's also possible that Gruden believes Smith will only get better, which as you said, would be his arrow pointing up.
in all honesty mr gimmie----- i am hoping Rico becomes an H-back too...the dude is a beast..if he learns to block even satisfactorily...i mean guys bounce off him trying to tackle him....i love me some Rico...i realize most is potential considering not playing football since middle school...and i hope is has been working his tale off...but we saw him in preseason and he looked smooth and beastly..if he could channel and learn to block oh my gosh...6'7" or 8" and 285 of pure muscle?...i know its potential but i hope he can transition..he has been boasting on social media of his talents...i just hope it comes to fruition

Eh... for a guy that's going to play very little, it's not like he's going to get gassed and he's a better player right now. He's on a one year contract so it's also not like you're worried about what happens when he turns 30...
I get that you love Smith, but this isn't something to go cray over and tell people to "do homework" when you haven't yourself.
mr Corso--- actually...what you say is true......apologies

Jarwins your guy then.

I wouldn't doubt that at all. I can see the TEs this year being Witten, Rico and Jarwin. They promoted Jarwin to the active roster because he definitely would have been swiped from our PS.

mr Mary--- wow that is sad....we are so hard up ..that fighting about a fullback that only plays a hand full of plays a game is concerning!!....cowboy fans are peculiar

I was actually impressed by Gathers' blocking in the preseason. He did a good job of shooting his hands into the defender and getting leverage, which is difficult for a player as tall as he is. He showed good power in stalemating linebackers and defensive linemen. He has some work to do, but looked pretty good as a blocker and receiver for a guy who hasn't played much football.

The Eagles wanted him.

He's pretty athletic. Hopefully he's bulked up some.

And if Wit would take a pay cut and a play cut, I'd be OK with that. But don't count out Swaim. Rico is still a big unknown as far as I see it.

Is Witt still getting paid big? I thought his salary went down pretty significantly. I thoroughly agree about the play cut.

He counts 6.9 against the cap. Was top 10 I think, before Graham and a couple others just signed.

Ah... thank you. I thought it was more in the 5 range. I should have looked it up.

it seems Rico is competent enough at this point to at least get him in for 10-plays a game?....and i would throw him the ball..no one is going to box this dude out...i just hope we open up the offense this year...Zeke was not at all used in the passing game to his potential...i dont know why we have been so stubborn to stay so conservative...i understand Dak may not be proficient in whole playbook...but certainly a lot more than what was used?....OH i have a question..what are you thoughts about possiblility of more RPO's which could use Dak and his legs more ...but also expose him a lot more?....i am still a firm believer that Dak needs to get proficient throwing down field from pocket...i realize Foles did more RPO's in superbowl and won...but all it takes is one good open shot on Dak with no protection?
