Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is close to applying for reinstatement, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Gregory, 25, has not played in the NFL since Week 17 of the 2016 season. The NFL banned him for repeated violations of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Will be interesting to see what happens if he gets reinstated but it’s pointless if the team already knows they will never trust him enough to give him a spot on the final roster.

I’m hoping it all works out for him and that it’s in Dallas. He used weed as a coping mechanism for for mental issues and got busted by an outdated NFL rule. To me at least, theres another chance for him. There are much worse things than some lettuce.

Here is to hope the media & fans give the kid a chance........let the coaching & roster decisions fall where they may

Yeah, why not? Nobody should ever be written off in life.

If he's applying for reinstatement, I would assume that he's been passing tests regularly, so that shows me he's made a serious and committed effort.

I thought Josh Gordon came back last year, played well, and has started to get his life and career back together. I hope for the same for Randy Gregory.

Hopefully he has his head on straight now. But the real question is, what kind of football shape is he in now? No harm in taking a look, but I have a bad feeling about it.

We do not know the team truly thinks that way.
Consider the source of the article. Also what one of the Jones says is not always entirely true.

Which is interesting because if Gregory gets reinstated it means he followed the NFL guidelines but not Dallas Cowboys guidelines?

Why. He has 6 months to get in shape and football shape like every other player. Even if he has missed 2 years of on the field play, it is not like he hasn’t ever played or has like 1month to get ready.. He will be fine.

Wouldn't it be freaking amazing if Gregory has decided that playing football is more important than smoking weed. Amazing for the fans, amazing for the team and maybe a little amazing for him. Yes, football careers are short lived and really not that important but he can use it as a stepping stone the rest of his life. One success leads to another . Smoking weed, although mellowing, isn't much of a stepping stone. Which lifestyle do you want Randy? depends on you man
