Randy Gregory, why so hush?

Considering the need for quality pass rushers, why would anybody be against Randy returning? Sure, I have my doubts about him, but he is young and these couple of years could have motivated him to change his life.

Not being able to depend on him makes me against him. Lying to everyone makes me against him. He’s made the organization look foolish for drafting him and he caused us to waste a second round pick. That makes me against him. He should have been motivated to change his life after being suspended in college and falling in the draft and the opportunity the Cowboys gave him. He’s been given plenty of chances and he didn’t take advantage of them. He’s wasted three years battling a drug addiction that he claimed he didn’t have. If you’re going to have a strong team you have to have a disciplined team. You can’t just keep giving a player chance after chance after chance. This sends a bad message to the rest of your team.

I was also angry when suspension after suspension were occurring. I love my team and there is not a day goes by, that I don’t look up, to see what is happening in big D; however, there is more to his story. This is a young man that has probably a mental disorder that never was treated. He is not a spoiled rotten athlete nor is he a criminal. I’m now pulling for him to make changes in his life and to resume his profession.

Blimey!
You are a better man than I.
Hold on to that dream.
Your folks raised a good man, ruffian!

Randy may be subject to further discipline. They are trying to understand what they can do and what roger may do. Im sure his camp is talking to the league and we will know something after the draft. Hope it works out but dont count on him at all.
Good then, but it might take a loooong, loooong time before this kid straightens up. Then he'll be out of shape, out of football and out of time.

Yup. If he can get on the field an help, great. If not, i have alrwady written him off.

All of that has nothing to do with taking a look at him now. I understand your position, but taking a look at a player in his position hurts nothing. Irvin and Lett caused big problems in the 90's, but they gave them s chance to play.

He’ll probably be a shell of himself now. The team hasn’t seen him in over a year. Gregory would just create a distraction. You can tell everyone involved with the Cowboys are tired of talking about his problems. The organization is focusing on trying to put together a solid team in 2018 with players who are committed. Irvin’s problems didn’t start until he proved he could play and play great. Lett was also a proven player when his issues started so both he and Irvin worth the headache. It was different back in those days the personal conduct penalties are much stiffer now. Gregory has done nothing the past three years. Some must have forgotten but he wasn’t looking that great when he got suspended this latest time.

We could use an edge rusher. Pulling for him as I always have.

I am pulling for him too. It is possible that he will contribute this year, but I am a little bit surprised that so many people are predicting he has an almost guaranteed roster spot. He hasn't played football in a long time and he has never had his head in the right place.

I'm not saying it can't happen or won't happen but i guess I am more guarded than most on this issue. I think it's 50/50 he won't make the initial 53 man roster. But we can hope.

My comments are not suggesting you said any of those things but many here seem to think it is a foregone conclusion and I just don't think it's a lock by a long shot.

I think you’re right and that is sickening. Either the kids clean or he’s not. His future should not be reliant on the whims of the dbag commish.

I agree with that. And the commish is a douchbag. Having said that if Gregory relapses prior to getting reinstated the penalty is probably not as severe as if he is reinstated and runs it in the ditch. In this case it might actually be a benefit to the player saving him from himself.

No worrIes.

I think it does approach almost certainty but you're right......it isn't written in stone. I doubt he's lost much but we'll see. He hasn't even been reinstated yet. If he adds something to the team then yippee skippee. But we have a decent or better DL without him.

I'm not raining on your parade. What makes you believe he will be a factor this year? Brighten up my jaded view of him a little.

I see no reason why he's lost much if anything. I also see no reason why the commish would not allow him back. We don't have an edge rusher and he should blossom into at least a player. I have no idea how good he'll be but he should be a NFL player.

What makes this a story is that Gregory could have filed for reinstatement five months ago and still hasn’t. He could have been reinstated 3 months ago. Since he hasn’t we can only speculate and no news is not good in Gregory’s case.

The NFL drug program is supposed to be confidential. The leaks we do get are not supposed to happen and if the process is done right we only hear when the punishment results in suspensions or like in this case reinstatement.

We heard from Gregory's team that they were applying but I wouldn't expect to hear much more until it is done. Of course there could be leaks but you cannot count on them or at least you shouldn't be able to by rule.
This is true. The patients facility won't even use real names via email or phone conversation.

It is deemed confidential above and beyond .

Not the simplest answer at all.

If that had happened, you don't think the entire world would have heard about it?
I'm not saying the "but then he got high" part has happened yet but I think it will. As of now, there is nothing for the world to hear about. You are just trying to complicate matters rather than sticking to the simplest answer.

The simplest answer for why he hasn’t filed for reinstatement five months after he could have is because he hasn’t been clean long enough to have confidence he would be reinstated.

And we wouldn’t know about it because we find out about failed drug tests when the NFL announces the suspensions. Gregory is banished so there is no more discipline to announce.

The other way we find out about them is through leaks, which most people would blow off as unconfirmed.

It isn’t hard to read between the lines in the Gregory case though.
