Why do you think Jerry has kept Garrett around?

Jerry has failed at getting a SB without a Team That Jimmy Built.

Garrett is Jerrystein's Monster, the Coach That Jerry Built. Garrett is the legacy he hopes to leave behind. His Landry.
We have to remember Jerry’s not interested in winning another Super Bowl if a HC steals his thunder like Jimmy did.

There’s not enough room in Dallas for an ego as big as Jerry’s and why Jason is perfect.

I think it is a lot of "just enough" to keep Garret around and Jerry does not like to pay off HC's.
  1. He took over a team that required a major overall. IMO that gave him a couple of years of "learning on the job" time that JJ stated he would not get.
  2. He has won enough (in Jerry's opinion) and won COTY which convinced Jerry he may have a legit HC.
  3. The team has not quit on him like it did with Wade.
  4. Jerry wants to be perceived as a "football guy" and being patient with his HC goes along with that thinking.
Note: these are my opinions on why Jerry keeps Garret and not my opinions justifying keeping him.
I think Jerry doesn't mind paying HC's....but what reputable HC would want to coach for him is the real question.

Sounds good to me.

I think Jerry just wants to prove that he was right to hire him. I know JG represents himself and the team well, but his game management has not improved. I can't figure it out...what do you think ? This is a serious question, I'm not joking or trying to start any drama. Just curious

1: Jerry sees a non-coordinator Head Coach as an administrative position that is primarily responsible for keeping the team motivated, scheduling practices, etc.

2: The prime motivation for Jerry to fire Garrett at this point would be if Jerry wanted a coordinator that he could only get if he made that person a Head Coach.

If the offense struggles in 2018, Jerry will blame Linehan.

If the defense struggles he will blame Marinelli.

If the overall talent fails he will blame McClay and the scouting dept.

Finally, if the team quits like it did in Wade's final 1/2 season, then Jerry will blame Garrett.

Stephen is much more likely to blame Garrett than Jerry: however, Stephen will not want to pay Garrett to go away. Garrett's is guaranteed to get paid for 2018 and 2019 regardless of whether he gets fired or not.

Stephen appears to have increased Linehan's power in the organization this offseason. It appears that Garrett will be completely out of the offensive game plan now. The concept of Linehan running Garrett's scheme appears to be over.

Even if the team succeeds in 2018, I would not be surprised if Stephen wanted to promote Linehan to HC in 2020 when Garrett's contract is over. Why pay Garrett and Linehan if Linehan can do both? Stephen can just pay himself the money saved.

Barring a collapse expect Garrett to be here as long as Jerry is GM. And I’d suspect someday Garrett will become VP /GM and Stephen becomes Pres.

Paying off as in firing a HC and paying the remainder of the contract.

When you consider we’re stuck with Jethro and Son it’s not so bad being stuck with the Clapper.

It is what it is. We’re the most dysfunctionally ran football franchise in NFL. It’s amazing we remain relevant at all.

I’m thankful when we have at least 16 meaningful games.

I agree with your reasoning why Jerry keeps an incompetent coach around but there are coaches who can actually coach that would not steal Jerrys thunder. I guess with Garrett if we win(fat chance) Jerry wiuld definitely get all of the credit.

There is a difference between a good coach and a Superbowl caliber coach. Garrett keeps teams motivated to play, but winning is not paramount. At times, it seems some of the fans care more about the Superbowl than the team.

I cannot place all the blame on Garrett. Aikman, Smith, Irving, the O-Line, D-Line...the point is, they all wanted it and so did their coach. It must be a collaborative effort from all involved.

1-he always regretted firing Gailey and Wade (why I dont know) and doesnt want to do it again
2-Garrett is a puppet. Majority will not put up with his meddling. Garrett doesnt care if hes ignored/overridden
3-he wants to prove to the NFL he can pick and mold a coach (as if anyone cares)

Silver lining is Stephen. He will probably step in if we have another average year, override Jerry and force a change

I think Garrett will eventually become a coach like Landry. He is smart and has balls.

We have already paid the growing price. Might as well see if he can get us over the hump.

I think he believes in Garrett, if he didn't he would be gone. It would be easier for Jones to play to the fans and fire him but he is willing to take the heat because he has faith in Garrett.

Isn't Garrett the last connection to the 90's SB teams?

Cause after a dozen years he’s still hoping his gamble pays off. Just like he’s still hoping for the credit of building a champion. Neither one is really working out.
