I would tell Seattle I will give you a 4th this year and a 5th next year. If they say no then we can wait a year and sign him in free agency

I want ET as much as anyone here but no way I'm giving them premium picks for what amounts to a one year rental when we could wait a year and keep all our picks. No first, no second, no third this year. I'll offer a fourth this year and something near that next year.

It's like people are forgetting that giving up a 3rd for Derwin James also means they are using the 1st rounder on him as well. I'm hoping that my using the visuals for how both scenarios actually play out makes trading for Thomas make much more sense.

Its still hard to not think about the idea that we would be giving up a 2nd round pick to get 1 extra season from ET. His free agency coming in 16 games is why its so hard.
Now im not a big fan of trading up for James either. I would rather roll the dice on Reid from San Fran for the 1 season and then look at ET when he is a free agent next offseason...

Or maybe I wouldn't....Heck I don't know....

I would deal a 3rd without the extension if needed. If for some reason they don’t extend him they will recoup at least a 4 when she signs with another team next year. Makes it pretty cheap pick wise. Of course Seattle could always say no

Yeah, if Derwin James goes top 10, it'll take at least the 2nd as well. But just for the sake of my argument because I've seen so many people toss out that they'd do the hypothetical Derwin James deal and not the Earl Thomas deal, let's say Derwin James slides to 14ish and all it takes is the 3rd rounder to move up to get him. The Earl Thomas trade still just makes so much more sense.
