It's called nickel that we play in 70% of the time with 2 lbs on the field. Step ur game up young fella.
Once again, yes and no. Lee is about to be 31 with an armada of injury history. Tough as nails but injury prone as heck. Even if Lee plays 3-4 more years, he'll never play a 16 game season again and that's a fact.

I think when they are in the nickel....its gonna be Smith and LVE out there regardless. Well....once Lee can't go anymore.

Dallas will also have the option of using a 3 DL, 3 LB Nickel set where Jaylon Smith might rush off the edge, or he might drop with another player blitzing.

I like that idea. But don't we blitz like twice a year? Do you have faith our staff will get that creative?

Didn't take long for the, "top player on our board", claim to arrive just like it does in pretty much every other year and with every other draft pick.

I hate that crap too.

Tomorrow will be a 2nd round guy we had rated as a first rounder day.

Negative Feelings
  • Had a mid round grade on him. Many players I would have picked before him, including D.J. Moore and Harold Landry.
  • More importantly, how expensive could it have been to trade up two picks and get the best safety in the class?
  • Bad at shedding blocks (have fun playing Mike buddy).
  • Negative medical (likely a smokescreen.)
Positive Feelings
  • High upside player. Great measurables and described as "ascending player" by Dane Brugler.
  • Addresses major need.
  • Seems like a likeable person.
  • He isn't Rashaan Evans.
  • Not nearly as terrible as the Taco Charlton pick.
C+

P.S. This does not mean Jaylon Smith was a wasted pick. It's called a 4-3 defense because it has 3 linebackers in the formation. There's also this nickel formation called 3-3-5, where you sub out a defensive tackle instead of a linebacker; Jaylon Smith blitzed a lot as an OLB in college, so it'd be nothing new for him.

I don’t think they meant top player, but top player left on the board.

I like hearing they stick to their board.

Their actions support their claims though. They could've traded up for James....could've even had Ridley.

Rod Marinelli is not a fan of blitzing, but he will use it here and there.

And, with a 3 man Nickel DL, bringing Jaylon Smith or anyone else is still only a 4 man pressure.

Yeh the dinosaur is now gonna run 3-3-5. I'll believe it when I see it. All this pick does is scream Tampa 2.
