I’d tell Seattle to take a hike. 3rd or nothing. But 2nd and a huge contract when you’re finally getting your cap in order for a 29 year old?? Don’t do it.

We cleared the space by cutting Dez. That's why this move has seemed inevitable. Dallas doesn't usually open up cap space unless it is planning on using it somehow. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that the Cowboys opened up $8.5 million in cap space with Thomas set to make $8.5 million in base salary this year.

Now, I'm sure Dallas wants to work out a long-term deal, but it created the exact amount of room that it needed to get this trade done no matter what.

agree terrible move for a declining player who isn't a difference maker

I wouldn't say ET is declining. He's still one of the best safeties in the game and got back to a Pro-Bowl level last year after that broken leg.

Good move for Cowboys if true. He will be the leader on D with Lee and could be what takes this D to the next level. No rookie would have half as much impact next season.

Smh......dumb move. Love the player, but he's 29. Give them a 3rd or 4th and nothing more.

Agreed. Pick #50 is much too high a price.

I'll hope that this is an intentional leak to get Thomas to lower his contract demands.

injury prone the past two years and yes his stats indicate he is declining--don't need another old broken down vet milking his paycheck

Where's the market for Thomas other than Dallas, I wouldn't give Seattle a pick other than a third rounder..He was injured last year and about to hit 30 years of age..

He's not injury prone. He missed only 2 games last season and had a broken leg in 2016 on a freak injury. I don't see ET as injury prone at all.

Why is it the Cowboys always have to screw around with their 2nd pick. Seems to happen every year.

When James began to fall and the Cowboys didn't move up to get him, I assumed the Thomas deal was going to happen. I don't like the way he handled himself after the SEA game but he is a great secondary player and according to Sherman and Chancellor, he was the glue that held it together and we got a look at their D without him.

Don't like paying what it will take and don't like giving up the 50 pick, but what kind of impact are the Cowboys going to get with that pick vs getting a seasoned vet and leader for this young secondary? And Thomas doesn't just help the secondary, he helps the front 7. He's the closest player to Woody we would have had since he hung it up. Part of me wants to see what he can do to help this D.

Injury prone the past two years and stats are declining since 14. He was good several years ago nothing special and not worthy of a 2nd rd pick. IMO

Meh.

Still a good player but on the downhill side and has already had discussions about retiring. As Parcells used to say, if you are thinking about retiring, you already have.

So give up a high draft pick and a big contract to a guy that may have a foot halfway out the door? Doesn't really make much sense and isn't how the Cowboys have approached roster building in a while.
