a fool and his money are soon parted.
Yes and a fool will always find a way, the laws have never stopped anyone from doing what they want to do, they learned that from prohibition. Make stupid narrow minded laws and enable the criminals.

Only a portion of that 150B, low estimate, will be affected because all the states will not follow the moves of NJ and Mass, soon to follow.

And it doesn't matter how they show the positive effect on the tax coffers just like they're showing the positive effects of legalized pot on the prescription disgrace in the states where they've legalized it.

The dumbest state in this country is Texas, they left the tupid off the end of the name. They're letting billions just drive across the state line in every direction because of their "morality". Wonder if these leaders against it would be as opposed if their churches were taxed or gambling was allowed and controlled?
I love texas for the fact there is no state income tax and it has the best hunting of any other state. it's leadership has been living in the dark ages for quite some time.

I agree. I would have left things the way they were. math is an integral part of physics. and the math says you will lose far more often than you will win. fools never learn. no sense trying to teach them.

I was right with you all the way up to "...yet all the schools still poormouth...."

You really think so? Honest question. I mean, schools have no control over where lottery money goes. Heck, they cut programs and all kinds of other stuff every year just so they can cover the cost of their core curriculums. I really don't understand the sentiment. Teachers are the people to whom we entrust our children every day, the people responsible for molding the future of our country. As with anything, there are good and bad teachers. Most are underpaid and a few maybe way over for what they offer, but by and large teachers are dedicated professionals who choose to teach because they love educating kids, and often end up paying for stuff out of their own pockets because schools can't. The national average yearly salary for primary school teachers is around $54k and in some states more than $12k less than that. In some states teachers average around $77,000, Alaska, NY, California, so you have to consider cost of living in all cases, but teaching is a thankless job that nobody goes into to get rich. And folks choose to be teachers so you can't completely blame the system, but in a world swimming in lawyers who make millions chasing ambulances and athletes who become some of the most affluent people in the country by playing games, If I'm complaining about anyone wanting more money it's not going to be teachers.

To think, a shovel jockey that plows snow on occasion makes more than 20k over the national yearly pay of a teacher. That's me. My base pay is higher than that. That's without any holidays, overtime, or snow overtime. Teachers are probably the most underpaid, and under appreciated profession.

That's what I meant, nothing wrong with the people in the state, it is that leadership that thinks they're parenting the citizens and applies their own morality to the state.

Texas has been fortunate to have 4 of the top 10 fastest growing cities in the US and the property taxes have eclipsed what they could get in state income taxes.

But to let all that money just go across the border is stupid and every year a couple of the TV stations and, DMN has done it as well, show the license tags at Winstar, Choctaw and Harrah's. 90% and I know that is fact for Winstar and Choctaw as they were good clients of mine in OK. But not for gaming, they didn't need that because everyone interested in that among the 6M people knows where to go. Same in Houston.

Absolutely no reason for the Federal government to be involved in either promoting or prohibiting gambling in the first place.

Nor most of the other things they're involved with but if you take them out of that, they miss out on the lobbyist consideration and money, which is why all of that exists. Want to begin to fix this country? Make lobbying illegal.

I imagine about every state had gambling prior to this.
Now it will just be legal and more wide spread or commercialized.

We have had gambling in my home town for years and everybody knew where to go to bet on Sports. And we are talking a small one red light town.
