Heading into the 2017 season, there were still plenty of question marks surrounding the Dallas Cowboys pass rushers. After just a few weeks into the season, it was easy to see that they were going to be just fine at defensive end. DeMarcus Lawrence was playing like an All-Pro and Tyrone Crawford was still providing quality play. The hype surrounding first-round pick Taco Charlton wasn’t being met yet, but the pass rush was doing well.

After an absolute electric start to the season, people started to realize that fourth-year defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence was going to get paid in the offseason if he stayed healthy and kept up the same pace. When you play like an All-Pro you get paid like an All-Pro, and that’s exactly what happened. DeMarcus Lawrence was rewarded with the franchise tag netting him $17,143,000 in 2018. After seeing the number DeMarcus Lawrence was going to get paid in 2018, it made sense to look at how the Cowboys defensive end unit stacked up against other teams in the league when it comes to salary cap. The surprising result was that they were the highest-paid defensive end unit in the NFL.

The Cowboys currently have 19.67% ($35,002,141) of their 2018 cap allocated to the defensive end position, which ranks first in the NFL, according to Spotrac.com. DeMarcus Lawrence is the highest-paid defensive end for the Cowboys and the second-highest-paid defensive end in the NFL making $17,143,000 in 2018

Look it up. Either in terms of cap dollars, or premium draft capital. Or VFA spending. Feel free to include the unusual amount spent on Lawrence's franchise tag this season, because it doesn't change the math appreciably. Just bear in mind the deals coming for Zeke, Dak, and La'el.

We have brought a lot of bodies in at DE. Those who think there is no chance that we don't trade Lawrence or let him walk aren't looking at reality. The bodies at the position are real insurance for Lawrence holding us hostage.

The consensus has been that Collins got that contract from a deal prearranged when we originally signed him, to make him whole for the money he lost through the false story about him. The contract made no sense at all otherwise.

Yep, we agree there. He had shown absolutely nothing before his extension. He improved last season, but still wasnt close to worthy of this contract but he's on an upward trajectory. Who knows thiugh maybe Crawford's weight loss makes him an even better RDE.

I wouldn't say Collins had shown nothing, but not near being one of the highest paid RTs in the league, particularly since *we already had his rights for cheap*.

For a 4-3 RDE, Crawford is way slow, has no bend, no burst, and no agility. He's getting by on power and hustle. If he loses some weight, the speed might get a little better. That would help. But I'd rather be playing the *numerous* cheap RDEs we have who are actually RDEs.

Crawford defintiely has a lot burst to his game. That's why he's so productive between his power and burst.

Between his power, burst, and some added speed he could lead our team our team in pressures yet again possibly.
