The Cowboys have been in some great playoff games in their storied history. Especially in the 60s, 70s and 90s. Some we won, some we didn’t.
One question- if you could change the outcome of ONE GAME in Cowboys history, which one would it be and why?
For me, I have three candidates, then I’ll choose one:
1. Dec, 1967-The Ice Bowl vs GB. We lost 21-17 My first “sports cry”. If we had won that, we would have had a SB win in 60s.
2. Jan, 1979- SB XIII- vs Steelers. Lost 35-31. If we had won that we would have been THE team of the 70s and first team to win 3 SBs. Still hurts.
3. Jan, 1982- NFC Championship game vs. Niners- lost 28-27 in infamous “The Catch” game. If we win that game, we would have won against Cincy in SB, and had a SB win in 70s, 80s and 90s.
My pick....the ‘82 loss to Niners. Still hurts. What woulda, coulda, shoulda!
Your pick and why?
We dominated that game. The turnovers killed us though.Still a few minutes left in the 3rd quarter and all the 4th quarter left to play, so that play alone wasn't the problem.
Lilly throwing his helmet is the most vivid memory I have of that game.
and "The Catch" being talked about would be Drew's...not Clark's...Drew's almost break-away got us down there in a hurry. What is forgotten about "the catch" game is that there was still time on the clock. If our OL doesn't let Danny get sacked, there's a good chance we win in the final seconds.
I hate to admit it but I burst into tears at the catch and watched that last Dallas drive in a blur. My mom was telling me not to get so worked up, then Pearson caught that pass. But then came that strip sack. Man, what despair. What is forgotten about "the catch" game is that there was still time on the clock. not ashamed to admit...my dad and I BOTH had tears.I hate to admit it but I burst into tears at the catch and watched that last Dallas drive in a blur. My mom was telling me not to get so worked up, then Pearson caught that pass. But then came that strip sack. Man, what despair.
Holding #75on a side...I'd love to go back to that Giants game in '86 & change Danny breaking his wrist.
We were 6-2...#1 offense in the league and Danny was the #1 passer,I believe.
If he doesnt get hurt...I'd love to see how things finish.
I always thought that team coulda been a cinderella type team.
We're the same age only I lived at that time in NC which was Deadskin territory then. Oh my I hated that team all through the 70's and 80's.I have a tie: both SB losses to the Steelers. I was 10 years old and 13 years old, going to grade school in Steeler Country.
The abuse I took from just about everyone made me hate that team until the day I die.
I thought we had that game. Went in the kitchen to get a snack and I saw the catch as I entered the living room. I started banging the floor which I did a lot back then. lolnot ashamed to admit...my dad and I BOTH had tears.
I remember my dad saying..."NO!!!!!....DALLAS!!!!.....NO!!!!!!!" after Clark's catch.
Me too, I grew up surrounded by Commanders fans including some of my dearest relatives and friends. We're the same age only I lived at that time in NC which was Deadskin territory then. Oh my I hated that team all through the 70's and 80's.
The Butterfly Effect, Cowboys styleThe only one I would change would be the "Dez no catch" game. Change any of the others and the entire trajectory of this franchise changes. the 90's domination never happens. Troy, Emmitt, and Irvin never happens.
I'd rather change our recent past rather than our ancient past.
