My comment has 4 likes, your retort has two. I have more faith in the Cowboys zone community than to simply label posters as this or that negative connotation. Take the post as it is. If you like it, like it. If you don’t, that’s okay too.

You can paint me however you like, but I’m not trying to force my comment as truth. Just asking that you recognize them as facts.
Then tread lightly. I was just letting the CZ know of you, and also your post about some sort of vigilante justice for the sake our OUR forum. And please, spare me the Like as confirmation retort.

I also made a post in here I see that you aren't addressing, re:decline in production relative to career longevity and age.

Also, duly noted that you never replied to my further posts to you in the Brandt thread, Aero.

I'll take Smith over Sanders all day long. Smith battered and wore defences down, very seldom lost yards and was a durable 3 down back. Sanders liked to hold out a lot, played behind a very good offensive line, was not always a 3 down back and often would lose yards behind the line of scrimmage...leaving his team in poor position.

So post 18 doesn't resonate with you, then, Kazuya? With respect, brother.
Also with respect, brother.
Consider this: Sanders left school after 3 years and was fairly young when he made his debut (just turned 21). By the time he retired, he had carried the ball more times than any back in NFL history except for Walter Payton. So for people who say he quit, exactly how many times did he have to collide with other larger human beings to allow you to grant him permission to retire?
The truth is, Sanders just aged better than any back who ever played, including Emmitt. The guy ran for 2000 yards and 6.1 yards per carry at age 29. It’s unheard of, really.

It’s not my job to respond to your posts. You can try and force it, but look at all the other people quoting you, challenging you, or (not) agreeing with you. Post something worth responding to. I’ll show you how it’s done.

His carries you're including are using HS/COL/NFL I assume, Kaz?

I've posted to you numerous times after I apologized to you, Aero. If they weren't worthy of your time, it reeks to me of you tuck tailing and running off from my points to you. Even in this thread you wont address my point on topic with op.

Again, try to be the vigilante here, Aero, and be disingenuous and flighty when you deem it necessary. I wont relent.

You won a super bowl and now are cock strong and want to show us Cowboys fans who is the boss.

Son, ice up, you and your squad are our doormat.

Sanders quit at an age where he was still productive. Smith played as long as he could and his YPC dropped as a result. That heart and durability shouldn’t be a knock on him as a player.
Well Emmitt could have quit when he was still productive too, which would have preserved his YPC but also left him several thousand yards short of Sanders total. You can’t have it both ways...

Here’s the NFL all-time list for carries, through 1998 when Barry retired.

http://pfref.com/tiny/dJLGG
Ah, I see, brother. Okay, hear me out:

Emmitt Smith -- 4,409 (1st all-time)

Barry Sanders -- 3,062 (6th all-time)

A difference in career attempts of over 1,000 makes a YPC debate, re:late stage of their career, as per op, a tough one for me, Kaz.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_att_career.htm

Where Barry was at, ranked relative to Smith, when Barry retired, doesn't make a complete argument when discussing totalities of careers. There is no doubt, that at the time of his retirement, Barry had the gaudier stats. But as Emmitt kept choochoo'ing along, he blew by him in everything but per-game (non-scoring, non-playoff) stats.

It's a half argument that is disingenuous to the op, imo. And again, with respect, Kaz. Appreciate the discourse, brother. :star:

Well there’s no doubt that Emmitt’s carries at the end of his career on crappy Cowboys and Cardinals teams dragged down his averages. But the problem is, he needed all those carries to get the yards he got. He carried the ball 1,342 more times than Sanders to pick up 3,086 more yards. It doesn’t take a math genius to figure that’s not a great ratio.
Give Emmitt credit for the durability needed to achieve the totals, and going through what it takes to suit up at that age. But the truth is, there wasn’t a lot of extra added value from it.

My point is, with a smaller framed Barry, on his own version of cruddy teams, who's to say his numbers don't nose dive? 1,400 carries is ~4/5 more seasons for Sanders. Four to five more seasons in which he ages. At the most violent position in football.

That isn't negligible, Kaz. Yes, as I will admit, at his retirement, his stats were ridiculous. And they still are. But arguing longevity in the YPC department, between these two, should be used with caution. There's just too much a discrepancy in total carries and age relative to when they retired.

I agree, I would not pencil him in for the record at all, he still had a long way to go even if he kept up his stellar pace, which likely would have fallen off some. I just don’t consider the record and total yards in general to be a differentiating point. Both guys rushed for a ton of yards.

What about Touchdowns.
Emmitt Smith: 90-94 71 Touchdowns
Emmitt Smith: 95-99 65 Touchdowns

Barry Sanders: 89-93 55 Touchdowns
Barry Sanders: 94-98 44 Touchdowns

What about ratio of being pulled out in the red zone? During Barry’s career with scoring 99 tds, the Detroit Lions had 153 rushing touchdowns. Do you believe Emmitt was pulled on 36% of all goal line carries?

Well is there a reason to pull him perhaps? I mean that is getting rather speculative.

When you look at the names of the guys they gave the tds to, it’s hard to argue it was anything beyond preserving him because he’s the entire offense.

So yeah, then it's pure speculative/subjective.

His frame and hips and speed were better suited for open-field running, not crushing into the end zone on <5 yardage. How many of his TD's were >5 yds, even >10yds. A great many, without looking it up, I'm assuming.

The point of the game is to score. So I don't get the preserving argument. you don't preserve him until you get into the redzone? XD I just know when I was a teen in 1993, thats one criticism I heard about Barry Sanders back then, that he got a lot of yards, but wasn't so good once he got into the red zone. Guess those were the days before he got elevated into godhood, and well you can't just have any criticism about him since he is the greatest ever.
