Wasted talent...He could have been one of the all time greats if he had half the heart of Emmitt Smith....and played with pain. But that is the new NFL/pussificated league...get your money and get out.

I can already see it...He'll be broke in 5-7 years...and then try and make a comeback.

...he's pushing for a job at ESPN, and they don't pay in pennies. I'm sure he'll be okay on money for quite some time even if he's labeled "broke"

So, by my count, he had about 2 good years after Cowboys let him walk. If they gave him his 4+ year contract that he wanted at the time, the Cowboys running game would have started to slide badly right after they lose Romo for good. That would have been disasterous. Good call Jerrah. Good call.

Absolutely was the right call. Two of the three seasons after he left Dallas he averaged 3.6 YPC.

So I’ll say it w/sincerity: good call Jerry.

And I say that as a guy who has nothing but admiration for Murray.

Crazy seeing Titans fans on Twitter giving positive feedback about Murray, but Cowboys' fans nothing but vitriol. Embarrassing.

I think he broke out too late in his career and was too injury prone to be one of the all time greats.

So breaking your hand, having surgery the next day, and then playing the next week and the rest of the year without missing time when the Division was still in play doesn't qualify as playing with pain?

Well said. The organization's hesitation was that RBs, with very limited exceptions, are done by the time they're 30. And guess what, Murray is 30 and done. FO vindication!

So true. There might be 5 effective RBs in this league over 30. RB is a position with perhaps the shortest shelf life in football.

It’s also a reminder for Zeke that his window is probably 20% smaller than it was in 2016. IMO, the window for RB greatness is much smaller than it was 2-3 decades ago. Zeke and the Cowboys FO should be well aware that NOW is the time to take advantage of the opportunity to maximize Zeke’s talent.

he gave us one glimmer of hope in 2014. never held it against him for taking the money. that's the prudent move.

This is a good dude and a solid citizen. We should have never let this guy go, he's worth the money. Have a great retirement and go get that TV job. Make the former Cowboy representation on broadcast tv ever present.

Besides the obvious four running backs, out of curiosity, what Cowboy's running backs were better than him?

Here's where I'd go...

Perkins
Hill
Newhouse
Dorsett
Emmitt
Hershel

I think Elliott is already a better back.

Duane Thomas was probably more talented also.

The nerve of a fan sitting on his couch trying to call a NFL player soft.
