the attitude yes, but Bennett was a great blocker....and he could run better routes,
Yeah I was referring to attitude. May have been the reason we got rid of bennett. And maybe the reason Rico isn’t getting game reps. JG said Rico needs snaps.

I know the injury was bs. He was hurt but not for that long. They been stashing and grooming this kid but I believe they are out of options now. It’s go time. Wondering if his attitude is bad or his blocking is that horrid? Hoping he is the star someone on the staff thinks he is.

I think the cowboys should rotate the TE position. You just can't get rid of a huge target like Rico. If he can't block he should be used as a red zone target.

I have a feeling that’s one of the reasons he is still here. He can shield the ball. And has ability to go get the ball. And is a beast to tackle I am sure. Lots of positives. His blocking and assignments are coachable.

My question, what did he do in the off season? Did he not practice, get extra help in route running or because he's with the Dallas Cowboys he didn't feel he needed to work because of his "POTENTIAL" and he would learn it in training camp? If he believed that, then he doesn't deserve to be on the Cowboys. To me, he's got Dez attitude. Dez lived off of his "Potential" and reputation that he didn't feel the need to practice or get better in his route running. Seems to me Rico is the same way.

People are WAY too high on Rico at this early stage.
The guy has multiple threads dedicated to his greatness, yet there's a real chance he doesn't even make the 53.

He took a bunch of Instagram videos of himself pretending to be a football player.

Why 3 QB? We may be able to put White on PS without him getting poached. Unless he rips it up in preseason. He will have to be really good to unseat Rush at 2.
I think he wins the backup role personally but no way does White makes it through waivers to the practice squad

Sounds like a whole lot of negative speculation on your part based on no evidence.
Interesting that a cowboys fan would spit such venom towards a cowboys player without knowing.
You asked questions and without answers just turned this man you don’t even know into a lazy attitude problem guy.

I find this weird.

The coaches have him ranked 4th among 4 TE's. Garrett does not offer much hope of him breaking into a member of the 53 this year either.
He's not a refined route runner and he misses too many blocks to be useful. He may (may) make the practice squad this year but, not much else.
Swaim and Jarwin are going to battle all training camp for the starting job and Schultz will man the 3rd spot to develop for next season.

I’m not sold on Rico but since he is cowboy I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt like I do all cowboys.

You don’t know him and most likely have no clue how good or bad he is at running routes. We don’t even have credible media reports to go on at this point.
Yet somehow he just got labeled as an attitude problem who runs inferior routes. What do we even know about the quality of Bennett’s routes. How suddenly is Rico even being compared to Bennett? 2 athletic large black men who play the same position so they must be compared I guess.....

I guess Jarwin and Schultz must be Wittenesqe since they kind of look like him.

I don’t watch a lot of college ball so I am not familiar with him or how good he was in college. I heard he has a strong arm. Not sure about accuracy.

Why would you think they will cut or trade Swaim? I think those Swain, Jarwin & Schultz are completely safe barring an injury or something completely unexpected like Gronk getting cut & coming to play for DaBoys on a vet minimum salary.

I think Jarwin, Schultz and Gathers all have a much higher ceiling and that Jarwin will be the starter, with Schultz pushing him for that spot during the season.

IMO Swaim has the floor of a good backup, but a lower ceiling than the other three. I think the decision at the end of camp comes down to Gathers vs Swaim, with Gathers getting the spot because they use him in red zone packages and continue to develop him for the future.

It seems like every time Jason Garrett talks about Rico Gathers, he's making comments to the effect that he just needs to get plenty of action to develop into the type of player that he needs to become proficient. Nevertheless, when it comes time for his charges at TE to get said action, it's probably the other TEs that are likely to be getting the lion's share of the reps in practice. Here's hoping he makes the most of the action he'll be seeing.

I'm not too confident Rico will get the generous amount of reps that it might take for him to progress as need be. We'll see how it goes in the practices and the preseason games to get a better idea regarding the extent of action he sees and his ongoing development in TC. There's only so many reps to go be distributed with so many youngsters to develop. The competition is even tougher when the others have already had college experience at TE. I'd like nothing better than to see him doing well, although to me, it seems an uphill battle for him is in the cards.

I watched ALL of TE Rico Gathers highlights last year before his unfortunate injury and he played "lights out"! He is a man child. Dude can run with a huge body and big hands like no one else. He cannot be covered!

Recently, Coach Garrett mentioned ALL tight ends on the team EXCEPT Rico to the media. I smell a BIG RAT, in the respect that Rico is INDEED Coach Garretts "Favorite TE"

on the team! I personally believe, the coach got upset with Rico claiming to be so great on twitter....bragging etc. before he had actually done anything. I like what the coach is doing, getting his attention to focus on the team and keep humble.

From Todd Archer: The good of Rico Gathers: he made a nice adjustment on a back-shoulder throw from Cooper Rush. The bad of Rico Gathers: He had a false start in the final compete period and was sent to the sideline.

Rico is having a very good camp so far, and I believe his only downside is experience and focus. If he can stay mentally focused on the field (i.e. NO off sides/missed routes etc.) and keep out of the media then our coach has HUGE RICO plans this year!

Am I Crazy for thinking this way?

GO COWBOYS SUPER BOWL BOUND!

32,000+ posts and 288 likes ????? Whazzup wit dat? Are you really cray cray? Maybe for this unadulterated one sided view of Rico.

I think Rico has something (certain positive skillset) to give but I also think he hasn't put himself in the best place to make the Dallas Cowboys. He's overweight, he minimizes the importance of being a good blocker, he runs his mouth. I'd love to see him make the team but he seems to be his own worst enemy.
