I agree, the QB can't wait. Dak made eye contact a split second before he threw the ball. He scanned from his left to his right before seeing him.There actually was separation, albeit it partially because the CB didn't play it well. I assume your comment about no separation refers to the point Dak released the ball, at which time the separation had not yet occurred. But that's the way the play is designed. The QB can't wait until the receiver gets the separation before releasing the ball because that would give the safety time to get there, and also the receiver would run out of bounds before the ball got to him. The QB has to throw it earlier and trust the receiver to get past the CB.
