Billy Beane, general manager of MLB’s Oakland A’s and protagonist of Michael Lewis’s Moneyball, described the issue succinctly in an interview with the Financial Times a while back.

”Nothing strangulates a sports club more than having older players on long contracts,” explains Beane, “As they become older, the risk of injury becomes exponential. It’s less costly to bring [on] a young player. If it doesn’t work, you can go and find the next guy, and the next guy. The downside risk is lower, and the upside much higher.”
Awesome!,,, &,,,I always kinda' enjoyed WATCHING that rapid fire MONEYBALL DUDE on my T.V.o_O

Well you could have been referring to the backup situation as well...but that's easier to deal with than a starter.

Out of curiosity what would dak need to do to get you past your concern?

Retire.

QB depth is nice but hard to get. The Cowboys are like just about every other team in the league. They can't win with their backup QB.

young requires better coaching. our achilles heel to date. hoping Richard, rod's replacement, and lal do a better job than their predecessors. I suspect they will. linehan will be given autonomy to scheme the offense instead of just running garrett's inane plays.

Weaknesses
Footwork/Mechanics
Arm strength

Pocket presence
Skittish under pressure
Quick to check down either due to an inability to read the field or a lack of confidence he can make the throws

Summary
Has the mental makeup to succeed but lacks the physical skills to ever be more than a Rodney Peete type bus driver at QB.

The only way this youth movement will ever pay off is if they get a head coach that is actually capable of winning a super bowl before all the guys are too old or gone. As long as Garrett stays, this group will be squandered as well. Yeah, he might average 9.5 wins a season and make the playoffs every other year but he will be out coached by the first team they play with a real QB and the season will be over. That seems to be good enough for the Jones’ and the apologist style fans.

Ok so why does it take some teams 3 years to completely gut out their roster. Get rid of bad salaries and be competitive again. We’re going ion how many years with Garrett and it took this long to realize you weren’t going to win with veterans with bad contracts?
