It was 2 centimeters short.
Honestly, I just look to see if the results (TD in this case) are reproducible. What it looked like to me is that when Gallup turned his head, the DB turned his head and slowed a step to locate the ball, allowing Gallup to separate for the TD.

That isn’t going to happen most of the time. The typical result would be the corner running stride-for-stride with the WR and contesting the catch. With the ball out in front of Gallup, it would be much more difficult for the DB to knock it down.

So, a ‘perfect’ pass, IMO, would be one that the WR would have to run under and catch over his shoulder. Not one where the receiver had to turn and catch in his midriff.

Still, it was a good play and really, most long passes aren’t perfect... and a lot of those go for TD’s anyway.

It’s all good. I’m a Dak fan and think he did a good job of looking the safety off on that throw... which is the much more difficult thing to do for a young QB.

He’ll be fine.

Gallup looks really good too. He was my favorite pick in this draft.

It’s actually not uncommon for there to be late separation, although we can’t know if that would have been the case here or not. But that’s just the nature of this kind of play where the QB usually has to release the ball before he can know for sure. Downfield sideline throws are just uncertain. Seems half the time the pass ends up out of bounds.

Agreed it wasn’t a “perfect pass”. Those are pretty rare.

It's pretty ******* sad that when a great member here at CZ posts an opinion, that goes against the grain, get's personally attacked.

Shame on you.

This bull jive started on page one or two, posters here made it personal. Nasty.

Disgraceful.

And then people Like posts about "PMs telling me such-and-such." @JustChip

Nasty. Pathetic.

Grow a set of balls you eunuchs and know that every opinion on this board wont align with yours.

My earlier post was deleted.

Yes, I’ve seen late separation like you’re talking about plenty of times. IMO, that isn’t what happened here. The DB slowed for some reason (I think it was to locate the ball) which typically isn’t going to happen.

Not worth arguing over though. That’s just what it looked like to me.

There really wasnt much to view on the core players who will be the impact of this team. But this is what im thinking.

Dak and Gallup are going to cause alot of problems for opposing teams. That TD pass was picture perfect. That wasnt no scrub covering either. I had to watch on the the niners channel and the announcers were saying Ward lost the ball in the sun, but asnt Gallup looking into the same sun? lol

Connor Williams got beat early pretty bad by Buckner for a sack but he settled down and looked solid.

Again ill say this, I can understand why the team drafted Vander Esch with the health history of Lee and Jaylon's rehab going over a yr. But if only they would've waited a little longer. Jaylon is back 100%. He is flying around and is playing with power. He's going to be a difference maker this yr. I dont see the middle run def being a issue this yr with him there.

Safety is a problem. This team needs Earl Thomas, and i hope they can see it. Give SEA that conditional 4th that turns into a 3rd. You get one of the best s' in the NFL. With Lawrence on the DL, Lee in the middle and Thomas on the backend there would be a leader on every level of the defense. Having that alpha who leads by example on the field is much more important iMO than sheer talent. You can have all the talent in the world but if ur not sure on what to do its pointless.

Anthony Brown? I see nothing different than what he's shown every sunday. He cant cover, and he def cant cover in the slot. He will get eaten alive by faster WR's in the slot. He is a outside guy.

And my final thought is, If lastnights game was a real game, Dallas destroys the niners and brings Garoppolo back to earth.

Gonna enjoy this yr with the entitled sent packing and a team full of young guys who are hungry and some fighting to start.

What impressed me was the stiff arm Ward gave Gallup to knock him off his route. She shrugged that off and raced by the defender. I want to see more from Dak to Gallup. And I'm certain we will.

Williams will take some time. He has all the things you want in a guard. And an attitude which fits with this front. But he will need to do some lifting. However, seeing the way he totally buys into this job, I have no doubt he will be the left guard for a long time. We'll need some patience this season, because he will get beat sometimes. But this was an excellent pick.

Esch is a guy we all need to take a deep breath and wait on. My complaint right now is his seeming struggle with shucking the blocks. But let's face it, he has played so little eleven on eleven. He has the frame to add perhaps 8 pounds of muscle and still retain his speed. He was directing traffic of players yesterday. A season with The General and he will be seeing this game in a way he hasn't yet. I am wait and see, but want to not rush him. Even though I was skeptical early.

I am right there with you Latin on ET. This team needs a leader in the DB's that has been there and done that. All the nay sayers would be silenced fairly quickly once he arrived and took over that leadership role.

I also agree about Dallas beating the Niners. I am somewhat optimistic, and hope these guys stuff that season prediction by Prisco in his hole.

The pass to Gallup was short. If the db hadn't of got lost it would have been a pick. Should have led him and not placed it at his hip. I'm rooting for them but I'm not wearing my rose colored glasses this morning.

One of the hallmarks Gallup seems to possess is the ability tyo go get the ball. I have watched a lot of videos on Youtube and the guys seems to fight for the ball. Could it have been a pick. I suppose every pass ever thrown could have been a p;ick. But Gallup caught the ball, and Dak dropped that dime on him. Ranching, that was a damn pretty throw and catch.

Like I said, we can’t know if that would have happened here. We never got the chance to find out.

I just watched the play again, and here’s what I think happened. Gallup looked back at Dak about the 16-17 yard line, and the DB, who was facing Gallup at the time, took that as Gallup looking for the ball at that point on the field. Maybe he thought back shoulder pass. So the DB slowed a bit as he turned to look for the ball, and that cost him a few steps. Of course, that’s the advantage for the offense - they know the route and the DB doesn’t.

Another factor to remember is the safety was coming over, and was only about 3 yards from getting there when the ball was caught. If the ball hung much longer he would have got there. That’s part of the trick - getting the throw out there enough to WR can go get it, but not hanging it so much the over the top help can make the play.
