He's just raw. That's all it is. I heard a lot of things about him this offseason.....some even expecting him to unseat Dak. HE won't even unseat Rush. I do think they expected him to be more ready than he is now and possibly allow them to rid themselves of Rush at some point. Maybe it was the arrogance this fanbase has that they can develop a late round qb. Dak was a exception to the rule. Chances of us getting 2 Dak's were slim. I don't know what he will be some years down the road but I know as of right now he very well may be a practice squad candidate. I didn't like spending a 5th rounder on him anyway. Not that he wasn't worth it but I would've rather spent that on a position of need.

I'd put him on practice squad honestly. If someone spends a roster spot on him...so be it.

I just can't keep him unless the light comes on in the last 3 PS games. Are you willing to lose Lenoir, Tapper, or Rico for a third string developmental QB? That's the question you should ask yourself.

Not sure we will keep 3 qb this year? Practice squad.

It these kinds of articles that get many fans worked up.........he could easily be one those player it takes a min or two for things to slow down. Not to say he won't be a good player but COWBOY FANS expectation of him is waaay over the top. Think about it, we expecting a 5th round QB to come in a compete for backup and to some even starter. That's a lot of lighting ....(LOL)

Mike White isn't just another backup QB, but potential starter in 2019
By: A.J. Mada | May 8, 2018 4:00 pm ET

For the second time in three years but only the third in 10, the Cowboys drafted a developmental quarterback in the middle rounds of the NFL draft. This year, Western Kentucky’s Mike White was drafted in the fifth round. On the surface he seems like a solid fit to be a backup quarterback for the Cowboys. Circumstances, however, could lead to much bigger things.

White, who played two years at South Florida before transferring due to coaching philosophy change, was an intriguing draft prospect. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, White looks like he belongs in the NFL. White threw for over 11,000 yards with 74 touchdowns and a career passer rating of 142.9 over the course of his college career.

I stash him on the practice squad and bring in a veteran with some skins on the wall as the #2. No way I trust Rush or White to drive the bus.

He is a bit of a Kellen Moore special pet. They go way back. We will see how it develops at the cuts if things continue.

When the Cowboys drafted QB Mike White in the 5th round on draft night, I though it might mean the Cooper Rush experiment as a bonafide NFL backup was in peril. Usually, when an NFL team uses a 5th round pick on a QB, they are signaling a desire to patiently develop a guy. Mike White was considered a 3rd-5th round talent out of Western Kentucky with a good arm and a high football IQ.

But since camp has opened, it doesn’t seem that White has made any major positive impressions other than an occasional generic “good things” comment. Some folks at “Blogging the Boys” have suggested he’s been a slight disappointment and looks to be a practice squad guy at best.

Questions-
1. Has there been an accurate assessment of Mike White so far this summer?
2. How much can we expect to see White in ps games? I am assuming he’s going to get some more time in pre-season action to show something, so he certainly will have a chance to show something.
3. It seems Cooper Rush has outperformed White so far. Anyone have a different assessment?
4. Is White just waiting to show his stuff or just headed for the practice squad or worse?

I certainly hope we have #4 for all 16 and I’m predicting a really good year from Dak. But (god forbid) if something happened to him, I’m assuming Cooper Rush is still considered #2. Right?
Thoughts?
Blimey!
You certainly are an impatient hooligan!
The first preseason game and you already were filled with anxiety.
Now a rookie in the first week of preseasondom is giving you second thoughts.
Chill, mate.
Me mum thinks you are a worrier by nature.

He was 6/11 for 65 yards no td and no int. He was playing with almost no protection. I didn't think he looked that horrible. He wasn't GREAT but he wasn't dreadful either. Rush's first preseason game he went 9/18 for 87 and a td. So white actually had a higher completion % and avg per pass play, just not the TD. So I would give him some more time and see what happens. He may be cut, he may make it but one game is not enough to pass that judgment

I think most people were all gaga over his physical skills, especially arm strength. However, one draft analysis I saw talked about him being slow to process his reads and go through progressions. If that's a problem for a senior in the college game, it's only going to be magnified at the NFL level. He's purely a developmental QB at this point and will be for the near future.

"1. Has there been an accurate assessment of Mike White so far this summer?"

Well, I haven't seen him play yet but from what I hear Mike White has performed head and shoulders above Paxton Lynch so far this summer.

Gotta be careful trying to sneak Mike White onto the PS this year. Denver might just dump Paxton Lynch for Mike White if the Broncos decide to keep a 3rd string QB on the roster.

That's a very good point.

I don't think they will PS him. They aren't ready to admit it was a mistake yet. They will keep 3 QB's. Just my humble opinion.
I don’t see PS as a addition of a mistake
He was a 5th rnd pick with a good arm but needs to develope
That’s exactly what the PS is for

You guys saying he won’t be taking Dak’s job this season? Oh no!! What will we do now? According to many fans after the draft, he was everything Dak’s not. Also heard he could stand in the Pacific Ocean and toss a ball into the Mississippi River.

Rico, maybe, but not the other two. I'm not impressed with Rico at this point.

I liked the Mike White pick! I dont think one pre season game and a little training camp is enough to make a call on him. Right now I think the Dallas Cowboys are so involved in trying to coach Dak that White and Rush are along for the ride! I like the idea of drafting and developing young QBs.

QBs are in short supply. They are not like other positions. Watch a few exhibition games if you have any further questions.

I think a lot of fans fell in love with Mike White when they saw his highlight videos even though most players look good in highlight videos. I like his potential, but right now that's all it is .. potential.

Rush had a great pre-season last year which ultimately earned him the backup spot on the roster. I think Rush's lock on the backup position will hinge heavily on his performance during pre-season again this year.

If Rush plays poorly, I think the Cowboys will be more likely to bring in a veteran than simply bump White up to the #2 spot.

I watched him in the Senior Bowl. He was good. I liked the guy the Giants drafted more but he went a round earlier.
