Conventional wisdom in the NFL says the absolute best time to compete and win titles is with a good QB on a rookie contract. We have that. This year and next. This is the time to strike. Yet Jerry and son are content to with the status quo. Content to roll out scrubs at safety instead of spending the $. The money saved on Dez’s contract pays for Earl. Earl makes this defense a top 5 unit. Who cares that we give up a third. A third rounder is what got us Chaz Green. Spend the damn money.

There is no one working or playing for the Dallas Cowboys right now that will still be doing so the next time they win the Super Bowl. Let that sink in for a minute. I’ve been saying it for about 8 years now. I might be talked in to thinking Richard would have a chance to overcome the Jones culture and ridiculous decision making as a head coach but I’m not there yet.

I think this is more on the Seattle end, and not Dallas.
Everyone was to blame Jerry and the FO as usual. But it is really on Seattle wanting too much.
But it is status quo to blame Jerry.

This could very well be the last cheap year of Dak. If he has a good year I don’t see him playing out his rookie contract as an established good NFL starter.

So you are saying this team will never win another SB. Because there will always be someone named Jones involved with this team.
Sometime in the future, this sport will not exist anymore. Heck in 30 years it may not exist unless people like flag football with men and even women by that time.

And Goodell's grandson will still be looking at ways to Suspend Zeke's kids.

I think Stephen is smart enough to realize he's not a "football guy" and shouldn't be making those decisions. He's a numbers guy and my impression is that he is ok with that role, unlike his father. If Jerry steps down, I think Will Mclay steps into the GM role.

Thanks for this. I completely agree. The culture is the biggest issue there. The video of the team walking into the locker room after Sunday's game was so telling. I know it is preseason but they just got embarrassed at home by the Cardinals. Those guys are yucking it up in the hall. Amazing. Everyone from the "GM" to the coach to the players are too comfortable. They don't have that edge that is needed to be special in the NFL. I have been blown away by how bad they have looked in the preseason. Defense has been pretty good but offensively they have looked terrible. Very similar to the look last season. Linehan has them 3 wide and runs it to the weak side for a yard way too often. The guy is a terrible OC. The decision to not put any edge on and challenge these guys is going to look really bad if they get stomped in Carolina. Sadly, the torch will be passed from Jerry to Stephen so I don't see an end to this carnival.

Yeah lets just throw drafts picks away like candy like the Joey galloway trade for two first round picks or the Roy Williams, a first, third and swap late round round picks because those worked out well......I wouldn't mine Thomas but I wouldn't give up anything more than a third round pick but Seattle is hoping for a lot more, thats on them, not Jerry!

They want a 2nd

Earl Thomas alone doesn't guarantee us a Super Bowl......................I still have questions about this receiver group and the tight end position...........

Have to cut off some question marks though. So you are fine just going Forward and hope for next season without trying anything?

With all out talent on D. Not likely but it may be able to cover up some offensive woes. It use to be offense covers D. Now defense covers O. Keep the scores down and create turnovers.

No, looking back at the past 20 Super Bowl winners, it is a very small percentage that won with QBs on rookie contracts.

Honestly, I wonder if the plan here isn't actually to win a SB but rather just stay competitive year in and year out. That keeps the money flowing in at a fairly consistent level.

If they happen to get lucky and make a run, so be it. But I wonder if they just want to make sure they can consistently spit out 8-9 wins and minimize the downside instead of trying to win in a certain window.
