The insanity of this FO

Conventional wisdom in the NFL says the absolute best time to compete and win titles is with a good QB on a rookie contract. We have that. This year and next. This is the time to strike. Yet Jerry and son are content to with the status quo. Content to roll out scrubs at safety instead of spending the $. The money saved on Dez’s contract pays for Earl. Earl makes this defense a top 5 unit. Who cares that we give up a third. A third rounder is what got us Chaz Green. Spend the damn money.

“We are The Jones/Garrett Process...resistance is futile...you will be assimilated.”

I think Stephen is smart enough to realize he's not a "football guy" and shouldn't be making those decisions. He's a numbers guy and my impression is that he is ok with that role, unlike his father. If Jerry steps down, I think Will Mclay steps into the GM role.

No he's not

He is smart enough to know that there are fans (many on this board) who think he's smart enough to know he is not a football guy

So the Joneses will keep selling us garbage and we'll keep buying it

I was talking about since he destroyed the dynasty and has made nothing but bad decisions since. Keep paying for the rollercoaster ride that never reaches the top if you want. I quit putting extra dollars in Jerry’s pocket about 6 years ago. I can’t do anything about the dollars that find their way to him through Ways I can’t really control but I haven’t spent a dime on anything Cowboys related since then.

Again, you got 3 Super Bowls for your dollars, that's more than any other fan base other than New England during his term.

This is knee jerk. The entire starting offense hasn't even played together this preseason, and they haven't played with a game plan yet.

True but you think having no game time together until game 1 of the regular season is a smart choice?

Well what are you going to do? They own the team and aren't going anywhere. Stephen has never made such decision and I don't know why he would even try at his age. Jerry was able to fool himself into it b/c he played college football. Stephen was never an athlete. They already paid McLay like a GM to keep him from leaving. So, obviously there is an ascension plan.

Jimmy crafted and built those teams. The triplets won that 3rd superbowl in spite of Jerry and his hand picked puppet.
There were players brought in that had nothing to do with Jimmy on that 3rd Superbowl. Doesn't matter anyways, Jerry made the decision and won 3 Superbowls. Jimmy has 2, Jerry has 3....... Not hard to understand

Have you ever had the thought that, idk, maybe... they HAVE thought of that, and Seattle’s asking price is just too high?

Yes we don’t know! We really don’t know!

But it is so many great GM’s, coaches and people in the know on the board I guess we do know.

Maybe they don't like ET "THAT" much.

No one can know that for sure but I’m pretty confident that he will be better than every safety Dallas currently has on their roster combined for the next three years. For that I’m willing to take the chance with a 2nd round pic

Sure it matters because he has never duplicated that decision. Of course he gets credit but he also turned around and destroyed the good thing and has been nothing but awful since. Those are also facts that will never change.
Doesn't matter facts are Jerry has 3 Superbowls

You mean a top 3 in the entire league at a position Dallas currently is fielding a 3 headed dumpster fire? Gotcha.
A 29 year old top 3 who is starting to show some injury issues and wants a huge payday.

Plus ET wants a big contract. too big of a contract.

Last year Eric Berry signed a six year $78 mil contract with $45 mil guaranteed. Now you know ET is going to get at least close to that which will but him around $14 mil a year with us still needing to sign DLaw and Dez. So if you don’t win it this year, what the **** are we to do?

The team is worth 5 Billion dollars. Jerry is all about being the master showman. He loves his team I believe that. But, this is an era of mediocrity and look how long we’ve had Garrett and that’ll sum up the whole why this team isn’t going anywhere question.

Seriously?

Fifteen years ago, maybe. Now I think he considers himself not just a football guy, but one of the best in the league.

He might actually be as arrogant as his daddy.

He is no where near as arrogant as Jerry. I don't even think that is debatable.

Dez? I assume that was an error.

You are off base on context, content and conclusions.

The context was you saying giving up a 2nd rounder for Thomas was like using a 2nd rounder in the draft on a player who may be less likely to become as good. My response was to say that you aren't talking apples to apples because there is a pay element with Thomas that doesn't apply to a rookie draft pick.

As for content, I said it would make it more difficult to sign others. and the undeniable reality is there is a limit to how many big contracts any team can give out. The more spent on one player, the less is available for others. That's not even a question. A salary cap sets a budget, and that's how budgets work.

As for conclusions, you really had to make a laughable stretch to decide the fact that the team pursued Watkins but wouldn't pay whatever it takes to get him means they were unwilling to pay a big contract. It does not because regardless of whatever the Cowboys cut off point was, it would have been a big contract, had they signed him, and they were willing. They just weren't willing to go quite as high KC. The fact that you think it is a negative that they weren't willing to go to a ridiculously stupid level to sign him is even more laughable. Being willing to pay a big contract does not dictate a team has to be willing to pay a ridiculous contract.

And I did not concede that Thomas was too expensive across the board, because the expense isn't just in salary or just in the draft pick, and I clearly said the Cowboys felt like both the contract and a 2nd round draft pick is too expensive. I agree with that as well.

When in such a simple debate you start using words like "context, content and conclusions," It suggests that it's no longer about the argument but instead your need to try to show some great understanding that eludes. It's a simple debate of opinion about acquiring a player, or not.

There isn't a comparison between a second round draft pick hopeful and arguably the best at his position. Simple, no argument. As black and white as you can get.

His pay is what it is. You weren't arguing that initially. Your initial argument was that his pay is such that we wouldn't be able to sign players we want from other teams and our own. I used your own example of how this wasn't true, in that we were prepared to sign Watkins. We didn't because his price went too high. Exactly what I said from the start - we aren't handing out those astronomical contracts anymore.

I've essentially said the same thing in reply to you in three different posts using one of your own examples to refute your own argument. I think its pretty clear whose stretching and reaching etc.

My initial post was that the price is not too high IMO and I explained why. You disagree and that's cool, not a problem. You just couldn't support your argument and that's cool too.

Bottom line, I think he could help without negatively impacting the team and that's what its all about anyway.
